Why is my kanthol red?

My current build has been in for about a month, maybe a little longer. I change my cotton daily. I noticed yesterday when I was burning off gunk that my kanthol has turned red. Why is that? I've run builds for much longer than this in the past and never had this happen. Halp please!

Can you post a picture?

Is the juice you are using colored?

Is the actual wire red or did it have a build up of red gunk on it?

I would recommend changing out your coil at least once a week depending on what you are using it in. If you are using it in a RBA then it probably could be changed out every two weeks or so, but in a rda I would change it out weekly. coils are easy to make and take no time installing.

Change the coil. It has some corrosion of sorts from the long use of the juice your using. As stated above, change out your coil more often.

Kanthal is an alloy that includes iron so it could be rust. I have never seen this myself but I usually recoil every 2 weeks.

Edit:
Just read that Ethyl Malto has a high affinity for iron, forming a red coordination complex.
This could explain why some people see the red Kanthal and others do not. I don't use Ethyl Malto in my DIY ejuice and I'm sure there are variations in the amount used in commercial ejuice from zero and up.

Yes, kanthal is 60-70% iron, so it rusts. I have had a couple of coils turn rusty brown on me, especially if I soaked them in water for too long while cleaning them. Throw away and rewrap.
