Why is squonking so popular all of the sudden?

I love my REO, but it's not the only great squonk box out there.

You have to understand though that REO love is the collision of two vaping "groups." First you have squonkers, and let's face it, bf mods are fantastic. Second, you have mechanicals, and while some have valid arguments against all users using mechs, there is something to be said about a mod that has the potential to last forever. Bottom line, it's great that bf mods are catching on more and more, it means wider availability of bf atomizers that don't require custom modding.

I don't think elitism comes into play. It's about reliability, ultimate cost, and ease of use.

Will your drip box survive being run over? Custom classics have.

Will your drip box survive an emp?
Custom classics will.

Can you toss your drip box in a lake, take it out, dry it off, and then vape it? You can with a custom classic.

The difference between REO and custom Classics is more about conductivity and aesthetics than anything else. REO conductivity is just not that great. That's ok and works for some people, and more power (no pun intended) to them!

Whatever keeps you off smoking is good, but some things are better than others. REO, Custom Classic, TMod. These are made in the US and will most likely last a lifetime.

Will your drip box last that long?
;)

yes, it will fall into water and survive... just a fyi... not run over yet, but I am married to a mechanic, it will happen. have you read this same thread? yes there is elitism, even in your post. the beauty of vaping is there is different flavours for everyone. we squonk, we enjoy it, we've found devices to do it with that make us happy... I'm not interested in getting a mech, not everyone is, I'm happy with the 60w and will probably get the 160w next because I actually want the regulated.

I'll give you this: you're a squonker, and fortune favors the bottom feeders. :)

In reference to the op/title post-

Squonking is becoming more popular because those who are exposed to it by whatever means realize that the closest thing to the ease of smoking is squonking. I can't speak for anyone else, but I change my battery once every 24hrs. I fill my bottle once every 24hrs. If I don't have an extra battery or juice bottle, it's no big deal. I carry a mod that's basically the size of the cardboard boxes we all used to carry, and that's IT. Everything is onboard, right there. All the time. I don't think about rewicking like I had to with the KFL+s. I rewick once a week. I don't worry about the tube mod tipping over constantly or look like I'm sucking on a lightsaber every time I vape. Squonking is by far the simplest, easiest, most care-free way one can vape. And ultimately THAT is why it's so popular. Once you try it, 9 times out of ten the light goes on and you're hooked.

I got my first BF mod delivered today and got to spend a few minutes with it before heading out to a concert. I left it at home as I'm not 100% comfortable with it yet.

In any case, first impression is that I get the allure of squonking. Very easy to use and I like the vape. I can see why people like it so much!

I'd say that that honor goes to the Billet Box. When it comes to flavor, though, squonking has it in spades.
Nah. Squonk, vape. Easiest.

No messing about with bridges, drop in coils, or whatever.
No boro tank fill valve to mess up.
Almost limitless choice of atomizers thanks to the Catfish.
Two post atomizers like the stumpy can be coiled effortlessly.
Plus, my CC carries 8.5mls and an 18650. What's with those little batteries. Tsk. Tsk. Lol.

I'll admit, they look cool though.

Good for you! Welcome to the wide world of squonking! It is imperative for you to familiarize yourself with your device (whatever it may be) before relying on it. I applaud your judgement! Learn how it works. Watch the bottle and the atomizer deck when you squonk. (It's neat). Realize you've taken a step down the path of enjoyment and left the path of fiddling behind you!

Billet Box's size (about equivalent to a deck of cards) is a big plus as well. My Tmod is a bit cumbersome for carrying around, but it's such a well-made device. The little batteries you're referring to were implemented in the older versions (3.a and earlier) of the Billet Box. My Billet Box experience began with version 3.a - I used to carry two spare sets of batteries at all times, in addition to the ones already in the device, just to last a day. The current version uses 18650 cells and lasts me about a day and a half.

However, I most certainly prefer the flavor, throat hit and vapor production of a squonker. All the custom devices are awesome, too.

Still though! There were slotted 510's (for bottom feeding) LONG before that!

IMHO all these "squonk boxes" that are out now and responsible for the so called "rebirth" of squonking (which is a ridiculous phrase in and of itself) is a bunch of crap!

Squonking never died! The Reo is a niche device. Expensive and not for everyone. The people that have one or several know what true squonking is! Then everyone wanted to come out with their own version! (They all pale in comparison BTW!)

Reo is life!

I'd really love to make one of my 454's one, sadly I can't see how .

The 454 is a easy one to mod to BF. Just need a dremel to make groove into the pin up to the build area. I believe the Positive pin is press fit. just have to push it out the bottom and cut the groove.

I used a c clamp but if a vice is available it will be easier.

I'm only just getting into squonking, the issue for me has been cost. I have a strict limit on what I'm prepared to pay for a mod which excluded a decent squonk box until now. I was dispointed by the Dripbox 60, I'm hoping the Coppervapes will make me happy.
