Why isn't my rebuildable working?

Hi, I've got an IGO-W that I can't seem to get working at all. I'm not new to vaping, and I'm generally pretty good with electrical and mechanical work, but I can't get this thing to work for me. I rebuild my Kanger pro-tanks all the time, I've watched a bunch of videos, tried different techniques, and nothing seems to work. I even took it to a shop with some coils that looked really good to me, and asked them about it. They said they didn't see anything wrong with it. I had them build a coil, it worked for a minute until I got in my car, then it died immediately. I've tried 28g and 30g Kanthal, silica wick, and cotton wick. Often I test it on my evic, sometimes it will work for about a second then stop working. The evic sometimes says atomizer short, sometimes it says no atomizer found. Does anybody have any ideas? It seems like rebuilding an IGO-W should be easier than rebuilding a Pro-tank, if only because the IGO is called a rebuildable.

Thanks!

What is the coil reading after winding?
Sounds like you are below the Evic resistance threshold.

Thanks

There could be multiple reasons why your RBA doesn't work.
1. It could simply be your battery.
2. Are you using a 18650? 18350?
3. Your coils also may have hot spots which can cause a short.

(If your evic is not reading the atomizer correctly I would say you need to rebuild those coils. Turn off the lights check which areas are burning on the coil; if it doesn't even light then you have a problem with connectivity or possible battery shortage)

Second on the resistance threshold of the eVic. It can only handle about 1.2-1.3 ohms. It is very easy to make a seriously low resistance coil with both of those gauges of wire. I shoot for 4-5 wraps on the 28 personally, 5 if you want to be sure that it'll work. You might get away with 4 on the 30. Good luck and have fun!

All of the above answers apply. Does your Evic get an ohm measurement when you meter it? If it won't, the coil is too low in ohms or you have an electrical connection issue with the Evic. There's also a high probability that there's a short in the coil. It's ok, it happens to novices. Keep at it and learn how to find hot spots and how to correct them.

The best video that I saw for rebuildables is the one Zen did for the ZAP for Provape. Watch the entire video and learn how he goes throught the entire setup from start to finish. Z-ATTY-PRO Rebuildable Atomizers For ProVari - YouTube

Would it be possible for the center post (positive) on the IGO to have an intermittent defect due to a manufacturing problem?
I'm a newbie, but have built three micro coils for my IGO L with no problems. Only needed to build the first one, the other two were because I wanted to fiddle around with the new toy! (G)

Hi, thanks for all the replies. I thought the threshold on the evic might be the problem, so I've tried many different configurations. Single coils, dual coils, micro-coils, dual micro coils, from 2-10 wraps. I have tested some with a multimeter before putting them on the igo to be sure they would be within a reasonable range, but after installing them, the whole thing is dead. This morning I built a single coil. I measured the bare coil at 2.4 ohms on my multimeter, made sure the the wire went through the posts at the same point I tested the coil at, screwed it down snug, but not too tight, put it on my evic, and it said no atomizer found. Put the coil on my mech, and it doesn't even get warm. Multimeter says the posts are connected, but jumps around alot before finally reading 0 ohms (0.5-0.6 on my cheap dmm, same as when I touch the leads together).

So, I'm thinking the problem is with m igo, but then why would it work a little bit sometimes, and not others? If it was a hotspot, would it just have to heat up really bright until it burned through, or would it be like blowing a fuse?

maybe the insulation of center post is wrong, that happens when screwing more, happens to me

Does the center post screw out? I've tried turning mine but it didn't seem to want to turn and I didn't want to mess it up if it doesnt.

Thanks again!

I'm surprised no one has brought up the problem may be with where the coils connect to the positive and negative posts. It takes some finagling to get the coil to connect with the posts.

Once you get them to connect, are they usually good for a while, or do they go out pretty often? Are some RBAs easier/more reliable than others?

Thanks.

Ended up getting a trident clone, problem solved. Much easier to work with.

lol yea the little slots in the posts work wonders eh?

but for the igo it sounds like the centerpin isnt out far enough. I have heard of people tapping the positive post inside with a hammer to pop it out a little.
it is a screw that goes through an insulator and screws into the bottom of the centerpost.
but glad ya got something working. the trident can be a cloud machine.

One of the issues I have had with Igo's is the center post is too short. If your 510 is not adjustable you need to tap that babby down with the smallest hammer you have. should be about .8 inches if you have a dial caliper or some such instrument.

Thanks for the replies! It sounds like the center pin is probably out of adjustment one way or the other. I'll see if I can get it working soon, probably, but for now I'm pretty happy with the trident design.

i use a smoktech Octopus mini for months and i love it. its really cheap $5-7. it requires you to make the air hole a bit bigger but that only takes like 2 seconds with a drill bit. just make sure you scrub and wash it off really well after drilling. start with a 1/16 bit and go up from there. i use a 3/4 wrap of twisted kanthal .32 gauge on 4 strands of 2 mm silica wick. make about a 1.5 ohm coil and i throw that on a eGo 1000 mah usb pass through. vaping at around 10 watts is plenty for me. just try not to flood it, and make sure you vape it dry before you set it down and you wont have a mess to deal with. it does not hold a lot of juice like 6-8 drops at the most. get about 10 decent drags off it before you need to add some more juice.
