I recently got a Joye 501 and I'm really enjoying it. I went through one of my stock carts, and then decided to try my new juice. I couldn't get the foam to sit properly, so I used a rolled and folded teabag which seems to work better and give me a better hit.

Not being one to leave well enough alone, I keep wondering what kind of performance benefits there are to doing further mods. But I'm not quite sure what the benefit of a atomizer or battery mod is? More flavor/vapor? TH/LH? Is the intent to get it to burn more juice? Or just the same amount more evenly?

Is there a sticky that describes different mods?

Thanks all... As I take a puff in my office at work.:D

That's exactly why I mod stuff, I can't leave well enough alone, and because I can. I guess the biggest reason for me is having a battery that lasts all day or in some cases days, they're cooler looking to me, and the whole auto drip, bottom feed systems, variable voltage. It's kind of fun to have a weird science contraption to play around with and improve on.

To mod or not to mod, that is the question. Whether it be nobleir to suffer the rancid taste of a burning atty....sorry got carried away there for a second. Some do it because they like to build things, others are looking for something that fits their own personality (Not really sure what that says about drippers LOL) and others want to create a mod so unique that it will forever be known as So and so's mod, no matter how many people make one just like it. But all in all i believe that it's the modders that will keep vaping going. So MOD ON my friends MOD ON!

A percentage of the population likes to tinker with products to see if they can end up with a "better" product. To end up with the "better" lasting longer, being bigger, being the most compact, being less hassle later, or just bragging rights. Every hobby has its own percentage of tinkers. And these are the people who also help develop new ideas for each hobby. Think of them as mini-inventors. Most do not have the resources to take a new idea all the way but a collaborative effort can help the hobby progress anyway.

Why mod? Because it's there.:)

Seriously, for me, it's the satisfaction of creating something that I enjoy & is beneficial to me. I also like to make it better, smaller, last longer, & on occasions, create something that noone else has. At least until I share the idea. That's another reason, gaining & sharing ideas & knowledge.

But, most of all ----- it's fun!

I build mods because I'm cheap. I don't like spending $60 - $120 on a device that is essentially a battery, switch and atomizer when I can build one myself for under $20 - $30 with the batteries and charger included. I was looking for an all-day battery in the beginning, then I wanted to try 5-volt vaping, then I wanted to incorporate an on-board charger, etc., etc. I was able to re-produce all these experiences without spending hundreds of dollars on commercial mods.

I can also introduce smoking friends to vaping by providing them a solid device that is cheaper and far superior to the typical starter kits.

The primary reason to battery mod is for battery life. Larger batteries last longer and can save you money in the long run. After that its performance. Higher drain batteries perform better, produce more vapor and flavor. You can toss in voltage variants as well which make for a big difference in vapor production and often flavor.

Cart mods are for flavor and capacity.

Atomizer mods are also about flavor, vapor production, and performance.

Cosmetic mods are for aesthetic purposes.

The first three categories can all save you money. (They can also cost you more).

There is a whole section for cart mods like the one you tried over on "tips and tricks"
