Interesting replys. Thanks everyone for adding your 2 cents. There seems to be a disagreement on taking the bridge out but most say that dewicking helps. I guess I'll take a look at my Cisco LR 306 and perhaps take the wick out of that and see what happens. I'm not even sure if I can see the wick on a 306 but will take a look later.

I am confused by terminology I guess. Is the bridge the metal post that holds the mesh or is it the metal post and the mesh?

i have started just removing the wick that is the white fibers and leaving the wire mesh and bridge intact
How is the performance by just removing the white fibers only?
