Do the wick, mesh and bridge on the atty serve any purpose on a bottom-feeder?

I know this is old hat to many of you but I became curious and de-bridged a 510 atty for the first time today. It was an older LR atty and I didn't mind losing it if I screwed up. Sure seemed to make for a hotter vape. I know some of my fellow REOnauts were doing this long ago and I was wondering if there are any disadvantages. I know you're not likely to do it if you're using a Cisco or some other expensive attys but for those of us using the 3 or 4 dollars Joye attys--is there any reason not to debridge them? Just wondering.

I didn't debridge my atties for a while. then I moved to no-bridge atties. I tried debridging my 510 atties and I can tell a difference. I think it makes the vape a little hotter as you said, and I feel like I get a better draw, and I can steam clean and scrape the crud off of the coil with a toothpick. I dont dewick them, just get rid of the bridge and the bit of wick that is usually shoved under the bridge. my coil is still wrapped around a wick.

Thanks Robert. Do you de-wick or no?

Roger, the next time you head this way, I need to have you stop in and show me how you de-wick an atty. I tried it once or twice and all I did was bugger up the atty and render it unusable. And that was after watching You Tube videos of how to do it. They all make it seem so simple, but I just tear them up.

I don't even attempt to clean my attys anymore- If I drill them out once and twice and they quit performing, they just go into a jar and I get another one- all about to come to an end when I get another ERA or other Rebuildable. I've got about 300 feet of wire ordered (different gages) and about 20 ft of wick!! I just need to get another few rebuildables, but then again, for $3 a pop (no pun intended) for Rob's EM LR atty's it's a no-brainer. OH, and I don't de-wick or de-bridge...I just let the atty do its thing until it's a gonner....going...going...gonner....

I'll be happy to show you how, Jeff. I look forward to the next time we get over to your fine establishment. We wanted to get over there for Prospector Days but it just wasn't in the cards. I hope you and your business has fully recovered from the nasty storm.
