Hey all. I tried a few times to use SS mesh on my vivi and learned quickly that I need to double up the legs or use Nr wire since the legs got hot due to the distance to posts.

What I learned is that when using silica /cotton/yarn ?? There are no hot legs ?

Does this have to do with the SS wick conducting electricity which causes the hot leg? Because I'll build the same coil with cotton and with SS and I get hot legs with mesh but it's fine with cotton ?

It works fine but I'm looking to see why it works ? Or am I crazy and will we still get hot legs when using cotton and I just don't see it ?

im thinking the same thing. I also think that since the cotton is a non-conductor it allows the wraps to heat up and not the legs, where SS mesh is a conductor ? But the mess is oxidized for that reason, so that electricity does not pass through it, so it's still interesting that hot legs come up with SS mesh, but not with cotton
