Just another USPS Rant....I am in Delaware so can someone from the usps explain to why they would route a package coming from Baltimore,MD to Philadelphia, PA only to come back to Newark, DE??? Makes no sense at all to me, unless I'm missing something vital. Routing a package this way takes an extra 40 minutes of travel time, maybe senseless things such as this is what's causing the usps to have financial troubles. All I say is DUHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

LOL I've followed a package that hit California, all the way to New York, down the east cost, to Ohio and a few more stops in the wrong direction to get to south Texas...

No matter what anyone says, they are still a government agency... so there is no tell why they do the things they do!!

How is it cost effective to bypass the intended destination by 40 miles only to drive it back the same day????

because it would be stupid to route an entire large truck of shipments to deliver one single package

what makes sense is to take all the packages to a single distribution center to place them on smaller trucks that go out for delivery

every courier service does it this way, it is the only way to do it

other wise it would cost you $1000+ to ship a package

I saw a couple posts on Reddit that some people's shipments were going to ALASKA last week.. for no reason at all.

and these people lived nowhere near that state lol.

I also noticed that my shipment last week went to 3 different sorting facilities in VA.. I've never seen anything like it..

This specific shipment took 8 days to get to me (PA to MA) but I order from WA and get it in 2 days lol.. I will never understand the postal service.

What others have said about the cost effective routing is accurate, and yes, sometimes it is just a matter of something ending up on the wrong truck somewhere.

As for your other point about the USPS losing money, that's two fold. First, there has been a MAJOR drop in physical letters being sent over the past decade because of email. This is pretty standard stuff as technology advances and businesses can't keep up with these trends.

Second, there was a law passed during the GW Bush administration called the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act that forces the USPS to pre-fund retirement health care accounts 50 years into the future. This law that was passed takes about $5.4 to $5.8 billion out of the USPS profit each year, which results in a large contributor to their need for recent cutbacks (office closings and considering stopping Saturday delivery).

i got an envelope from a seller once with a hole in it and my brass pin was missing from it. i dont know who to blame but i think a USPS worker thought it was jewelry or something and took it.
Its possible but letters go threw a machine with rollers most likely it was ripped lose from your letter during a sorting process.

Government Efficiency at it's finest.

Actually, it is. Or at least it was until the law I cited a few posts back went into affect. Did you know that the USPS is one of the few government agencies that was explicitly authorized in the US Constitution?

Read up on the subject of the USPS, you might actually find it interesting.

Let me state that I wasn't trying to upset or offend anyone with my post. I realize routing packages they way they do isn't what's causing them troubles, I was just venting/ranting. I guess I shouldn't have posted this immediately after getting home from the DMV, the idiotism there blows my mind.

If you're referring to my responses, it's all good. I agree with you that the service of the USPS has been going down hill in recent years, and I just wanted to take the opportunity to provide some information as to why it's happening. I rant about this issue all the time, I just try to aim my rants at the people causing the issues rather than the men and women who work in the postal service. Lord knows I wouldn't want that job.

Rant on, friend, rant on! :D

Rant on
My order from Fast Tech has been sitting in San Fransisco for three days. Uggggh, move already. It took one day to get from Hong Kong to San Fransisco. I have had one package from Florida that bounced around the US which was actually sort of fun to watch the updates. That little box was well traveled before it got to me in Montana. This order is just making me nervous that the package is lost in the corner of some sorting facility never to be seen again. I don't want to have to reorder as I'm trying to stick to a budget. Ok, I'm taking a deep breath.
Rant over

A couple of years ago I sent a $700 money order overnight from Kansas City to Pennsylvania on Friday to be delivered Saturday. Called the guy Sat nite and he hadn't gotten it. On Sunday the tracking showed it was in Canada. Monday I contacted USPS and they said I was lucky it didn't go to Mexico because then I would never see it again. They said Canada would figure out to send it on and it took 7 days before Canada sent it back to the US. Got refunded the cost of overnight.
