Why the double standard against the L88B on this site?

I'm not trying to start any kind of argument about preferences, just would like to throw out something for us all to think about. I use Joye 510, Volcano L88B, Volcano Magma, DSE801, various box mods, and a disposable that I'm not real sure what it is and like them all for different reasons.

Yes, this is about all the Blu bashing that happens on this site, but isn't really about the Blu/Volcano/L88b devices themselves, but about the knee-jerk reaction to tell new users that what they purchased is crap instead of offering any help. It would be much better to say “I didn't have luck with that device but I did with this one” than to tell them that what they spent their money on just doesn't work. Obviously these devices do work or the companies that make them and sell them would have gone away a long time ago.

Battery life:
If the question is about battery life on a 510 or 808 model, the suggestion is to get a bigger battery or a PCC, maybe even a mod. These things all work with the L88b models too. The real issue here is the 90mah battery vs 150mah battery or larger. The L88b is the same threads as the 510. When addressing the battery life issue there are only really two solutions, either more batteries and charge more often, or get a bigger battery. These options are given any time someone asks about the 510 but very rarely for the L88s.

Battery voltage:
Stock batteries for the 510 and L88B are both 3.1 volts. You can use a box mod on either and with get the same results with both. L88B attys hold up just fine at 3.7 volts and 5 volts.

Carts:
Pre-filled L88B carts are very inconsistent. So are pre-filled 510 carts. You almost never see anyone recommending purchasing pre-filled carts for anything, what you see is the recommendation to get blank carts and better juice and fill your own. There is a whole section on this forum just about modding carts to make them work better. I've use the blue foam and the tea bag mods on my L88 carts and it really works well. The only un-fixable problem with the L88b is the size of the cart. This just means that you'll have to top off the cart more often then you do with larger carts, but most of use have to top off our carts sometime anyway. If you go into this with the realization that a tiny cart will need to be refilled more often that a bigger cart, it shouldn't be that big an issue.

Attomizers:
When someone gets a new Joye510 attomizer the first advice they get is to blow out as much of that primer that they come with before you start using them as it helps them break in faster. Same thing with the L88B attomizers, they have that same crappy tasting primer when new and if you don't clean most of that off they do taste just as bad as the 510s do at first. L88B attomizers run a little cooler than 510 attomizers so you get a little better flavor but less throat hit and vapor.

Interoperability:
L88B parts all work with 510 parts except the chargers as the polarity of the battery is reversed. If have both there's no reason you can't use your 510 attomizer on a L88B battery or a L88B attomizer on a 510 battery. I often use a L88B atty on a nicostick box mod, the same one I use with my 510 attomizers.

I personally don't think the L88B models are good first devices as they take a little more effort to get good performance from them, but if someone wants to start with one and can get some good advice on how to deal with the short comings they have, they work quite well. No e-cig is perfect, they all have some short comings or there wouldn't be a need for forums like this.

By the way, I don't work for any e-cig vendor or manufacturer, I just like the fact that we have a lot of options and don't like that some options are never given a chance.

Well if you are trying to convert smokers to e-cigs you want their very first experience to be the best possible. As you yourself said the Blu is not the best first devices for users. The 510 is universally known. We all know many of the pitfalls of using the device and can help more readily. The 510 kits are cheaper then the BLU. There are probably more reasons but this will do.

I think it's a question of what kind of smoker you are.

I can imagine the L8 works quite well for social smokers, in the car, etc. But a heavy smoker going full-time on something like that? I have yet to see anyone attempt that and succeed. It's just too fidgety, the batteries die too quick, etc.

And to be honest, I think that's true of any super-mini at this point in technological history. I tried the Blu/L8 and the EVO/M40- that my friends had before I went on the search for my own. At the time, I didn't know the EVO was an M4-series, and I was looking at the M4's as my e-cig. I liked the EVO, compared to the Blu which I didn't care for at all. But had I known at the time the EVO and the M4's were the same thing, I wouldn't have bothered.

It's the same problem as the L8. Even though I felt the EVO was better than the Blu, it still was not good enough for me as a heavy smoker. And I'm so glad I found ECF, did my homework, and wound up landing on the Kr8, rather than wasting my money on a super-mini (I don't have the budget to have multiple units).

It's a question of utility. Is an L8 a good e-cig for a real smoker to completely quit cigarettes with? For the overwhelming majority, absolutely not. But that's what they advertise it as. And that's kind of the problem.
