I have found that for a while after first setup, electricity likes to find new ways of getting out of the coil and into the wick. Do not wrap your coils too tight, and when hot spots arise, I usually just rotate my wick a hair and they go away. I recommend checking your ohms before you vape after you have set it down for awhile. Usually random hotspots like those are accompanied by a severe drop in ohms.

Usually after your coil is nice and broke in the ohms of it will rise from .2 to .4 It is at this point it is probably safe to turn up your voltage to a desired level from a lower, but safer one. It takes me about one and a half 3ml tanks usually before mine are nice and safe.

No one has asked this yet, but how much juice was in your tank when the short occurred?

If you don't tilt a little at the end of a tank, the wick will start getting funky and coils will glow. This seems to happen faster on high-watt vaping, 32 gauge builds...but LR 28 gauge builds will have the same problems.

My tank was full, I never let it go before half. I was doing this for break in period. I believe a lot of my problems are my wick. I was getting a reading of 2.4 with 32g 4/5 wrap. Since my YJ decided to have a center pin problem, I am trying to remember where my meter is to check ohms. Ninja, I have seen your write up in another thread and I am going to try that method out.

post like these.. exactly why i joined this forums. just got into RBA's about a month ago, and i feel like i have built a new coil/wick every night since. was too impatient to really let it break in.

I was doing the same the first week I had my RBA, until I had a coil I knew I liked. It just keeps getting better and better, now that I haven't messed with it for a couple / few weeks. I did also pick up a RDA, that is my new project, still trying to get something I'm happy with on that one.
