That's it, next time coinesweek is selling I'm cornering the market:D

You know, with the movement to rba's a Kanthal A1 32 AWG co-op isn't too "out there"...go right to Sandvik and buy 5000 ft of the stuff and do a redistribute...and I have access to a wire foot counter/re-reeler...hmmm

Not a whole lot of difference between Kanthals A-1, A, and D

Common to all:
%C 0.08 (max)
%Si 0.7 (max)
%Mn 0.5 (max)

%Cr 20.5 to 23.5

Kanthal D
%Al 4.8

Kanthal A
%Al 5.3

Kanthal A-1
%Al 5.8

Fe makes up the balance of the composition

C = Carbon
Si = Silicon
Mn = Manganese
Cr = Chromium
Al = Aluminum
Fe = Iron

Kanthal is also known as FeCrAl (I've heard this pronounced "feckeral") :D

The older I get and the more years I vape the less I understand flavor variants from different wicks. A wick is a means to get juice to a coil, and if it is clean (no chemicals), it doesn’t burn, and it get the necessary amount of juice to the coil it should in no way effect the flavor unless there is some chemical reaction from the wick when it heats up. Vapor from juice has only one cause (heat) with all its variables (ohms, wire size, number of wraps, total heating area of the coil, voltage, watts) will dictate the amount of vapor and the temperature of the vapor. This volume and temperature will dictate flavor and TH. If this is true then by adjusting the heat I should be able to get the same flavor from any wick as long as it is getting juice to the coil. Volumes of vaper being called a dry hit is a misnomer and a lot of vaper with no TH is a temperature problem or confusing hot vaper for TH. I personal see very little difference in flavor after tweaking my voltages between the different wicks, except SS, the wick itself retains a lot of heat and gives a much hotter vape.

Silica is a fairly inert compound and most likely has very little interaction with the components of an e-liquid. Oxidized SS may have more interaction (components may be bound/retained (temporarily most likely)). Natural fibers like cotton and bamboo probably have the most retention of e-liquid components of the materials I've mentioned. This probably results in a "muted" taste with a new wick.

Did you ever do the spot of ink on the paper and then dip the edge of the paper in water/alcohol/etc experiment in school and see the ink separate into different colors? This would be the same type of interaction (if any) that would be occurring with our wicks. Eventually all the interacting points will become 'fully saturated' and nothing more would be retained on the wicking material.

Chances are, after these wicks are 'broken in', there shouldn't be much difference.

About a month ago I ordered Kanthal from Coinsweiseek. I had several emails back and forth explaining about the demand for Kanthal and exactly how much of the stuff they could move here alone, if they would stock enough. They assured me that in 2-3 weeks they would have a pallet or 2 so there would be enough to go around. When the time came to get it in bulk they gave me some story about how their existing customers would be taken care of but for now that was all they could do. After a few days of them blowing smoke/vapor up my, umm, well you know what, I gave up on them. So I am all for a co-op, or an open bar at Quigs house.
Quigs, FYI, I prefer Heineken to begin with, then after a couple of hours, any high end vodka will suffice. :toast:

Is that A or C if you know? The A runs a little hotter so less voltage needed. fwiw I think the A with 20% chrome gives a cleaner vape until its gunks up.

I picked up 2 sq yds of cheesecloth at our local food market and some cotton candle wick from eBay. The started out with the cotton batton and haven't tried any of the others. I should snip some of the cheesecloth and try re-wicking another CE2 with it ... :yawn: yeah, maybe tomorrow ... oooo a birdie :blink:

It looks to have been a busy day here in the thread. Perhaps when many of us have tried several various wick materials, we can take a poll to compare notes.

Here's what I did this afternoon. http://i.imgur.com/cuIz6.png

Does the Al impart more heat to the wire as perhaps roadrash is suggesting a little later on in the thread?
