Fiberglass is an irritant. Gov. studies I've found on the Net say the particles are not small enough to get deep in to lungs and stay there. Look for PDF files you'll find the research. In my experience the wick is always wet so it keeps the small particles together anyway BUT once I a piece of wick flew in to my mouth and being a glass you don't want that. I no longer use drip tipps for that reason but use a cut down 510 tank whcih has two barriers inside to stop liquid coming up and it'll stop anything else.

I understand - the more wicking material you can use in your wick the better taste you'll get. The cotton tastes funny to me even after the boiling, the bamboo is OK, but I have to make 12-16 strips to get it right. the bamboo yarn I've got is too thin.

I wonder if the 12 or so pieces can be braided effectively. Maybe 3 x 3, nine strips. I found 12 strands of thin Bamboo Yarn to be very effective in my Echo Crystal Vison cartos, though a bit of a tight fit.

True but as you said the partickles are not small enough to make it to the lungs or hook themselves in the lungs as it has pieces bigger than 6 microns which make it safe as far as inhaling is concerned, that piece that got in you mouth was probably a one time or so thing that does not happen all the time..
