I was going to buy a bunch of materials...candle wick, kanthal, silicone micro bore tubing, 99% silver wire, etc... Glad I didn't!
Last night I tore open an old ce3 that was no longer wicking well. I was able to reuse the nichrome. I didn't think that was possible. I rewired it using some small gauge wire I had lying around. That was easier than expected. I re-wrapped a coil over a toothpick and pulled my wick though after the coil was formed. I made the wick from a cotton ball. I primed with juice and reassembled. It works great and doesn't leak!
Performance is amazing. It never runs dry even on long draws. Taste is far superior to the stock ce3. I'm sold! It's cotton balls for me from now on.
These ce3's are ideal for rebuilding. You couldn't ask for a more rebuild-friendly design. I've seen other people refer to "ce3's" and the picture did not match what I have. This is what I'm talking about: CE3 - 5 Pack After modding with cotton the ce3 is my ideal atty.

I have some gotvapes phoenix cartos that appear to be the same thing. You are correct...not only are they extremely easy to rebuild but they are absolutely incredible when rewicked with cotton. There is one problem though. After rewicking these things several times the tube starts to get a little loose on the bottom and will eventually leak. I've tried to find replacement tubes with no luck.

Well folks I've been watching the progress that this thread has made. I went down to the local Wally World and got a skein of the Peaches and Cream yarn. I used a piece with 5 wraps of kanthal #32 in a TBC-2(Phoenix)and all I can say is OMG!!!!! Absolute goodness and vapor production. Now I know what all of the raving of the cotton is all about. I'm hooked. Now to see what else I can try...lol.

Ok so here is my ghetto-fied contribution. I am about two weeks into vaping and learning a ton. After reading this thread (well, half of it anyway) I wanted to experiment with cotton. I disassembled a used 808d cartomizer and carefully removed the silica? wick. I rewicked with a long piece of rolled cheesecloth leaving long tails on either end. I had intended to wrap it up turban style in a carto , but that didn't work so well. I just pulled it through the casing of a super shorty and wetted with liquid. I have to say, I am impressed. I can taste the juice better. It tastes clean with no off flavors. I compared same juice in carto and a ce5? (the Kanger M3 clearo). There is no comparison, the cheesecloth wick only tastes and vapes better.

I tried something similar with a dual coil clearo I had laying around, the coils were good but the rest was junk. I used boiled butchers twine to replace the wick and filler but it held the juice too well, didn't allow it to get to the coils fast enough.
Been having too much fun with my vivi novas to try all the different cotton I have...
...but now may just have to revisit the thought...

I've got two of the flange-topped ones coming. Can't wait to try them out. Those look like one of the best bangs for the buck in the 'verse.

The problem with the cotton is I'm almost bored with it and just want to change it out for another piece of cotton.
Day 11, Odysseus, heavens nectar on a 1.8 ohm coil using 100 percent square braided cotton candle wick size #1/0 and I can't kill it. To prove I wasn't going nuts I rolled a new coil with a new wick in another Odysseus with the same juice and vaped them back to back. Can't tell the difference(after new coil broke in). I'm not trying to go for a record here or anything but I remain seriously impressed. I want to change it out of boredom but I'm going to leave it be to see how long it actually takes to kill the wick.

Got a vertical SS Mesh wick running in my Chalice right now... It epically beat the cotton wick I tried before that. Don't get me wrong, cotton wick is excellent, but I think I'll stick with SS Mesh till something better is found.

Stainless Steel rope as might be used for various cables and perhaps elecronics ground cables. I have some, but it is too thik. I suspect some can be found in the 1/16" dia. range...I haven't yet looked.
Then again I may be just guessing at this thought.
