okay I am getting flashy eyes trying to go thru this whole thread. Great topic BTW. I recently got some Nextel ceramic wick. I love this stuff, dont ask me how, but it tastes and performs better than cotton. It wicks better, no dry hits off my Vivi Nova and on my Odysseus, what can I say. Im sold.

I hear conflicting information on having to heat it up ( blue flaming ) before its use. I dont have a torch nor a kiln, so I just went ahead and used it as is. It is so easy to clean, easy to dry burn and easy to wrap the coils as its so firm. It doesnt flake nearly as bad as regular silica, especially wet. I dont have to tip and swish nearly as much on the Vivi Nova, it just flows.

Am I harming myself if I dont heat up the Nextel braided wick?

I thought doubling the legs prevented the burning of the rubber grommet? I havent re-coiled mine yet - but that is what I was going to try instead of the NR wire. Does that not work?

Ive been doing that on my VN, and it really does work, no hot spots or burning on the little rubber grommets

Two panels blew off my fence into the neighbors yard, luckily my dog is ~13, weighs 3 lbs and has enough congestive heart failure and arthritis to make him slow...unless he smells the honey ham he gets his pills in lol. So he won't be escaping.

The hurricane is gone, just nice windy, autumn weather out!

NJ got hit bad I hear :( ?

No problems for our neighborhood from the hurricane  I guess that's as should be expected, in other storms, everyone around us is fine; we lose power, the town gets flooded, etc  :D

OT - tried a bamboo wick in one of my ChiDs last night. Got everything all hooked up, let set for a minute or two, looked at the wick, looked dry  Nah, couldn't be, fired it, small amount of vapor, fired again, burnt wick. That was with 8 or 9 strands. Rebuilt with 6 strands, let set, wick looked damp (not soaked like rolled cotton), fired it, weak vapor. Put the top cap on, vaped, weak vapor. Let set overnight, a couple of test vapes, weak vapor.
This morning rewicked with rolled cotton, primed the wick immediately, put cap on and vaped, clouds of vapor  I think I'll stick with the rolled cotton. :D

For those of you who are using cheesecloth, what exact type are you using? I bought some 100% cotton natural cheesecloth and it does not seem very absorbent (just based on dripping a few drops of e-juice on it (65PG/35VG). If it is not very absorbent externally, I don't really think I can depend on it in my rba.

Some materials may not initally be absorbant, but once saturated, can wick well. I have no personal experience with cheesecloth.

Tom: My fiance' has an interview at Penn (CHOP) for pediatrics residency on Thursday, the secretary was less than sympathetic with her on the phone today wrt to manhattan/flights etc being a mess: "Well if you can't make it..." LOL. I guess they're doing well also, not sure where philly is in relation to you

Cool: Is dead on. When I make my bamboo wicks and splatter my VG juice on them, it just kind of beads off and doesn't absorb. After a good flood/saturation though it wicks like a savage

Yeah Cyrus, I see your point! Currently trying my first cheesecloth wick. This is after using silica, unbraided cotton string, and most recently, sterile rolled cotton. First coil measured at 1.4 ohm and I got the ever dreaded F1 on my zmax. Next coil was 1.6 which is right in my ballpark. It actually seems like the cheesecloth is wicking a bit slower than the rolled absorbent cotton I was using. So I guess after I break this in, we'll see how it really vapes!
