Ok I going to lay it all out here... In all seriousness. FTR this is my 1st social PC anything I HATE fb. I just think its stupid. Point is this. Tib I believe I owe you a huge apology. I believe it was yesterday I referred to you as a young lady. All this time, I dont know where I got that thought or how, but my bad.

Ok now that we've got that little(huge) misunderstanding out of the way can we please get back to cotton picking wicking and coiling?

So once again my PC ignorance rears its ugly head. Never dawned on me that there was an s left out. I visited your page b4 I saw that last post and came back here to say that I was even more confused than when I started. Glad this little, or not so little, misunderstanding has been cleared up. Now I demand that we get back to our regularly scheduled programming.
To all members who have just lost 20 mins of their lives that they can never get back, I hope you at least got a laugh at my, whatever you want to call it.

Y'all lost me a few pages back. Have you raided the diaper department yet?

as long as you're not talking about pampers it might be worth a try. those cotton diapers were 100% cotton and not treated if i remember correctly but who knows what's in them now ....

Something I haven't seen ne1 mention is Aerogel... Karmachine had been looking into it before he got banned for life. it can be made from several different compounds with each having slighty different properties. drawbacks are : manufacturing source (FDA approved) and it is kinda brittle. But holy crap can it wick, capillary action is nearly double that of currently popular wicking materials.

Just for discussion: After all, the OP is about the safety of different wick materials.

I read that a lot of people use candles to soot their SS wicks to aid with the oxidation process.
This my need to be discussed. Soot is a source of Fullerenes (buckyballs). There have been a lot of research as to their toxicity. Mostly in regard to carbon nano-tubes. I remember when nano-tubes 1st came out there was issues with them mimicking Asbestosis. The industry changed the chain length so that after any inhalation the body wouldn't adsorb them like it would asbestos. Now I have no idea what the chain length would be in naturally produced Fullerenes found in soot but I do wonder if this is something we want to be inhaling.

Please understand, I am only talking about the sooting process used by some for their SS wicks. I am not saying that SS wick is bad, I don't know, and I sure don't want to sound like one of those people that say that everything is bad for you. I am just tossing this out for discussion.
