It funny that the main theme of these cotton experiments seems to be "over wicking" ...so far, I'm finding that with the gauze, you need to find that sweet spot of thickness/density of your wick otherwise ya, unless you're running a real hot coil, the juice overwhelms it and you don't get a lot of vape/crackle...the Ody has flow control and works awesome, the same size wick in the SGV3 needs some tweaking...gonna grab some cheese cloth today and play with that tonight...

Awesome, glad someone else is having a good experience with cheesecloth! If my Line SS ever gets here (tracking hasn't updated in 3 days, and it's out of customs!) I will be trying the full cheesecloth wick.
So you didn't even take out the strands and twist them together, you just rolled up a piece of full cheesecloth? I will have to try that as well!

I think that the first 5 minutes of vapin I had a little fabric taste -- only way to explain it. I did not; however, boil it at all. Bought it at the grocery store!

Yeah, I had a slight taste for the first 5 mins as well... it goes away fast, though, luckily! I boiled it as well, but I have a feeling it didn't really do anything.. it's already ready to use in food anyway.

Yeah, I had a slight taste for the first 5 mins as well... it goes away fast, though, luckily! I boiled it as well, but I have a feeling it didn't really do anything.. it's already ready to use in food anyway.

I didn't boil mine at all, I literally cut it, rolled it up, and started vaping. I flooded the wick before I started vaping though, just to make sure it would wick properly, and I never got an odd taste from it. However, I vape cinnamon red hots, so I'm sure it's covering up any odd tastes that would originally have been there.

The awesome part about the cheesecloth is that there has been no discoloration at the coil portion of the wick, that I typically got with cotton yarn, silica, and even the cotton candle wick mentioned earlier in the thread. As soon as I get home I will take a picture of the wick, and how it looks perfect on the Ato-Miser. Be forewarned though, I rolled a massive wick so I don't have to drip on it every 5 seconds, I can get a good 30 - 40 hits on it before it needs more juice

I'm liking the cheese cloth, dropped a nice fatty with 320 mesh skins on the legs into my V3 (ditched the nylon bushings, don't need those any more )...very nice (come on, say it like Borat)...thing with the cheese cloth in the vape chamber of the V3, it doesn't pop it booms...vape is huge, taste is great, good TH and nic is headache inducing and with the dual wicking legs I get the feeling I could simply tape down the fire button on my PT on a 1.8 coil @ 3.8V till the tank was dry, no dry hit...again, so happy I kept my V3...it and my Ody are so versatile as far as experimenting goes...geez, I've got cotton all over my desk, I've gone through about 10 ft of kanthal...big fun

Anyone else getting the sense the cheesecloth works better after a day? Not sure what's up, but mine went from not quite staying wet enough to frustratingly saturated. It may just be my device - it's kind of a clunky tank mod based on a Stardust.

ETA: Ugh... I don't know what is up - now it's back to staying dryer again. Definitely think it's an airflow thing in my case. Never mind. It'll be easier to wrap a new on when I get the fresh NiChrome, so I'll start over from that and see if I can get something reproducible. I'd also bee using strands instead of rolling it up as is; perhaps I'll try that way next.

Really?, hmmm, I've vaped about 2.5 ml since this afternoon on my V3 and it's settling real nice...wish I put a slightly hotter coil in though, maybe a 1.5 next...I do the non res/res/non res Ody method for my coils (I don't rely on wrap number) so I can dial them in exact.

Curious how you are attaching the nonres wire and what type of non res. Kanthal and solder dont get along well for me.?

Sorry missed a question...I get my non res out of high end silver coated 10 awg stranded speaker wire...each strand is about the same awg (32) as my kanthal...but to be honest, any silver/nickel plated stranded wire will do...you've seen that clearish lamp cord with silverish stranded wire inside?...go for that, good enough

Ok I just rebuilt a fluxo with 2 out of 4 strands from the michaels yarn. snap crackle pop clouds of vapor. I think 4 ply strand is too much dang wick, at least for my high VG DIY

Could be that with the narrow gap between the ceramic cup and the side of the tube on the CE2s, when the cotton swells enough it starts restricting the flow of the juice?

Just a suggestion. If you are using cotton thread in the E-2, try laying a strip of gauze on top of the coil.

Been thinking about why I don't have a wicking problem on my E-2's. Same 2.2 ohms on a 510 reg bat, works fine.

I do cut my stems down to 3/4 inch. I like them small. almost like a atty with a overflow cup.

I've tried laying a piece of extra yarn over the coils, and it didn't help at all, didn't even change anything. granted it wasn't gauze but I don't think that would matter. and when I used gauze in the CE2 it was the same issue.

Did you try rolling the coil in a way that its not overly tightly pressing the wick?

try to use thinner wick, or wick made of strands pulled from gauze, or lower resistance coil ( take two nichrome wires and twist them together)

Cyrus, when wrapping your coils try and keep your wraps as close together as you can...I've found, especially on the V3, spreading out the wraps won't build enough heat to over come the wicking...
