who knows, maybe it is under wicking and I'm just mis reading what's happening

I dunno, I'll have to spend some time with this on the weekend so I can experiment in a more controlled way

Cyrus, when wrapping your coils try and keep your wraps as close together as you can...I've found, especially on the V3, spreading out the wraps won't build enough heat to over come the wicking...

that could be it too, if I remember correctly, my cotton wick stardusts all had coils that were stupid close to each other, I was convinced it was going to be a fail, and it was like "woah cool" lol

Nice thing. I see the ability to make it servicable. With micro coil holders, made of sewing pin ant lighter spring- the cup is large enough.

Hey folks. I'm a complete noob to rebuildables, but this thread has been amazing to read. I'm thinking about jumping into the pool and stumbled across the DefCon.

Do you think a gauze or cheese cloth wick would work in one of these? One of the main reasons I've avoided rebuildable attys is my fear of having to make those mesh wicks (looks easy from the vids, but I just know I'm not that handy). I do however think I could handle rolling some gauze.
Any other impressions of the DefCon would also be great. It looks promising and the price is right.

Side note, I just used cotton wick on short mode Odysseus let's see how it does, so far, its good

It is just the cheap line. If you look at the thread, he's all over it. I give him kudos though, it's about time someone made an affordable rebuildable available in the states. Now we just have to see how his supply keeps up with the demand. The unavailability of this type of stuff plagues the e-cig industry more so than any other.

Sorry for the delay on the picture I promised yesterday, it was a rough night to say the least...

Here is the cheesecloth wick a full 2 days of vaping it with the cinnamon liquid:



Like I said, I used an enormous wick, and I haven't had a SINGLE problem out of it. I ran it a little dry on the 1 hour drive home from work, so it charred it just a tad, but it hasn't affected the taste or vape from it. Also, I let my cinnamon liquid steep for 2 months (I forgot about that bottle, lol) so it's a lot darker than usual, so it makes the wick look a little off.

Looks very vapeable ...makes me wish I scored that Alto when I had the chance

Its hit and miss for me.
It seems logical that cotton should be safer, and I want it to be, it does have its down falls. But for my health's sake I'm going to continue my efforts.
Finding the right heat for the coil, keeping the wick loose, and just moist enough, are all new learning curves. When it fails, its done. I get dry mouth like crazy with a hot LR coil. The vapor tastes like wet rag when its not just right.

For the time being I'm wrapping the cotton under the coil with SS mesh, 1.4 ohms @ 3.7v, for 3 hrs, its holding up, and tasting good.

I have the parts needed coming to me to make 4 or 5 of my own, and I'll be purchasing one of Choppers' versions too. New way of inserting wick into pre-wraped coil.

Make a boot lase wick Using a Thermo-Shrink tube, insert into a coil, cut off the end with a t-s tip. Quick & easy.
Also you can make a stock of such wicks. So replasement process becomes lightning fast.

with that hard tip you can pull this wick through various holes, not only coil.
In my devise i have to pass through one hole then coil then another hole. Hard tip is very helpfull in this case.

It's a pretty wick! Did you roll it yourself or did it come that way? My bamboo is thin strands and I'm too lazy to braid or twist lol
