Very excited to try this method. I have made an appointment with my Dr. for Monday at 9:30. :)

Seriously though I am excited to try it out. As soon as my Ody hits the mail box I'm going to throw this wick I made out of 100% cotton candle wick. Shortly after im heading to buy your gauze.

Cheers,

Chris
What is the resistance wire you've used in that photo? That seems to me to be an be an awfully long piece.

Hi,

That's what I thought as well.
I use 32 gauge. The video I watched said to use 6.5 cm and I thought this was too long but we will see. I thought 3 rounds should be enough but I don't even have a device to try it in until tomorrow hopefully. Do you think it's too many coils for 3.7 device?

Thanks

Chris

I think it completely depends on the resistance if the wire your using. Thats why I asked. I'm still dialing in coiling, and fine tuning my resistances to where I intend them to be. So when I saw that photo, and I compare it to what I'm making there is a large difference. I have like 5 diff resistance wires, and I've been sticking w Kanthal A-1 32. If I made a coil that long w that wire I believe it would be way too much. Now that I think about it, I am assuming what the diameter of your wick was, which will also make a big difference in the length of your wire.

I have read most of this thread...certainly not all of it...although i'm working on it...The thought occurred to me, sorry if it's been mentioned, has anyone used Butcher's Twine? The stuff chefs use to truss chickens and turkeys and to wrap roasts? Seems like a perfect media and readily available. Any thoughts?

Currently using it myself. Works well. Went with it because the appearance was so similar to oem silica wick as far as diameter and twist.

Did you take any preemptive measures b4 using it? Its funny that you fellows brought this up. I thought of this earlier today and just never got around to mentioning it.

You got me there, I would like to see a photo of that. I know what a vert coil setup is, but a phono plug is new to me.

They're pretty easy to build once you get the hang of it, but man it's a PITA to get the first one working and built properly. I think my total came out to $6 per RCA atty? Can't remember...

EDIT: Here is the guide meatsneakers made with amazingly detailed instructions. He made it a breeze:

There is a Ebay seller selling under the username Vapecentral. There is also a website called Vape Cave, they are located in Port St Lucie, FL. and this guy just sent me 12" of the single strand silica wick for $3 and change. When I say single strand I mean less than the diameter of a toothpick. I'm not completely familiar w the metric system, or I would give a mm description. Lets put it this way, its at least a third the size of the official Ody wick. I did not recognize the envelope as it had a diff company name than any of my expected pending deliveries. So I googled the name and called the # and the guy was like well send it back (at your cost) and we will refund your $. I just wanted to make sure nobody else gets fooled by this guy.

My wick works great. Took about 5-10 minutes of break in and now tastes excellent. My problem now is that my Ody is leaking out the center post. Not sure the solution. But cotton seems to work well over here.

Chris

You may not be screwing the ceramic/metal holder in far enough into the base piece, you may have a bad O ring or you may have some chunk of something in there stopping the O ring from sealing (like you've left your wick legs too long), ...if all else fails, q tip some vaseline in and around where the O ring makes contact.
