Thanks for thinking of me L7, (what's the deal with that name anyway :D)...seems I have to hold off on the 2nd GTUS for now, my buddies want to go ahead with our little VZ nic juice co-op which will about kill my e-cig allowance for this month and my wife runs a pretty tight dictatorship...

VZ nic juice co-op??????? who, what, where, when????

VZ nic is great, but xtreme vaping, wizard labs ice and ECX are my top dogs right now

Cool, well written (and stated)...I've got to be honest, I haven't done any kind of side-by-sides, bravo for taking the time...

I also like Xtreme, I found out that that was where my "Canadian" supplier was getting his nic juice from, decided to cut out the middle man ;)...but in my search for the BBD I read about VZ, tried it and was just as happy (especially with the smell and clarity), to me it's a coin toss between the two and when it comes to actually clicking the shopping cart button I'll be sure to check out your other suggestions...thanks Cyrus.

If you want to try out new base, John at High Desert has been my go to guy, and he resells Wizard Labs rather cheap. It's the only Vendor I purchase my DIY from.

Thanks L7 but because of border issues we where gunning for a large volume/high nic bulk purchase...the way the border and health canada treats this stuff you'd think I was trying to cross with a trunk full of small pocks virus...

labor of love!

my buds became way more sensitive to things than they were, and if nothing else, it taught me that 1) I really enjoy unflavored 2) fan boys are the dregs of society

This thread has been at the back of my mind for sometime now and I just had re-wicked my DIY CE2 atty with a yarn from a tea bag (cotton I think) since all the yarns we have at home were acrylic. It's vaping real well for a couple of hours now. Got a question though. The yarn I took from the tea bag burns/chars/ashes and does not melt like plastic, could it still be made out of a plastic material? It hasn't melted on me yet so I'm guessing it's cotton.

The simple test is to take a piece and burn it. If it burns cleanly leaving nothing but ash, it's cotton. If it leaves some black gloppy stuff there's something elst there.

So I got my V3 back from my buddy (in exchange for one of my SS Lines...the guy is killin' me) but in putting together a "cotton" sampler pack of yarn, string, rolled and cheese cloth (gauze) I looked again at the gauze and decided to try a single drop wick and use the Ody type kanthal to non resistance wire splice to get to the neg post. I made the wick about 4" long and stuffed the whole thing in there...not like you're hurting for tank volume in the V3 ...I folded over the gauze that's under the 1.8 coil and put a plug in the other wick hole (finally, a decent way to fill the V3 now!)...then I cut some new poly tube on the lathe, I made the vape chamber tube as short as possible to keep the volume and cooling effect to a minimum...the smallest drill bit I currently have is a 1mm, so I heated one of my coil wrapping needles and melted it through low in the poly tube, the hole looks like about .75mm, and pointed it right at the base of the wick...(edit: I sealed the V3's center air supply a long time ago, it sucks and leaks)

This set up is being entered into my "successful set-ups.doc" under OMG!...if any of you have a V3 out there collecting dust, dig it out (or sell it to me )...it's as good as my Lines and completely re-confirms what all you gauze guys have been saying...

edit/edit: I've been trying for a while to find this and I finally did...this is Imeo's vid that shows how to do the kanthal to non-resistance wire splice, it's in greek, but once you watch it you'll find it doesn't matter...this is a great splice, I use it all the time with no trouble...

spent some time yesterday rebuilding a mega -ego-xl-xb-xw- yadi, yadi, yadi, Dc carto. First I cleaned it up and dry burned the coil, got it all niza-nice. I wrapped the coils with unrolled cotton ball material and figured what the hay and finished the roll up with the cotton. Whilst I was doing this I was thinking. Why didn't the Chinese just use all cotton in there cartos instead of using poly film? See answer below.lol

So I saturated the cotton until the joose came out the bottom. Blew it out and vaped. wow nice, Nice, Nice, Then burn, Argg.
I took it back apart and upon inspection. It Seems like as good as the cotton balls are at sucking up joose. It hates to give it Back. All the filler was still saturated except right next to the coil. The cotton couldn't wick fast enough to keep the coil wet and ended up burning.Which is prolly why the Chinese use pollyfill next to the cotton diaper. The joose just runs through it.

I may try it again using gauze instead of polyfill and see what happens. Heck, I gotta have something to do. My cotton wick E-2-3-4-5's are lasting forever. LOL

Scubabatdan's genesis version 3 or SGV3...or in my laziness, a V3

They're huge, 10ml or so tank and uses (normally) a "U" shaped mesh wick...they're a love it or hate it device...with the designed (intended) set-up they have a TH that'll make a grown man cry...I personally love the V3 as it's the ultimate experimenters platform...

ya know Road, I played around a few times now with cotton balls, just because they are so readily available...I swear, there's something about them that's just different than raw rolled cotton, they seem to have this liquid repellent property to them...just weird...but then again, maybe cotton just doesn't like that type of set-up...good experiment though.

A long time ago Dan was just starting his 1st DSU and it wasn't going so well so he sent it to me to play with. For those that don't know a V3 has the tank under the coil and uses a horse shoe ss wick and the DSUs have the tank above the coil with a vertical SS wick. (DSU= down side upper) Anyway, we didn't have the idea of a vacuum type tank yet and with a vent it leaked to bad. So I took the tank off and made a 3/4" tall scuba dripper, it was great for taste testing juice. I put a tube in the side that stopped just below the coil/ss wick and it doubled as the air hole to drip a few drops right onto the coil. That was fun for a while but I got tired of dripping and just stuffed the whole coil tube full of loose gauze pads. It held about 3 or 4 ml and vaped rather good, I took the ss wick out and it made a big difference in the taste. The point to this long post is that you can vape through the liquid held in the gauze. It was kinda messy when it was time to change the coil though. when it would crud up around the coil you just pull it out and wash/dry it and put it back where the burnt part was not around the coil.
