It's not its a part that is machined from the builder,,, I think,,,, I dont have it an waiting for him to sell a true bottom fed version built ready to go, and believe its coming but not 100%......Heck I'm more then happy with just the Dripper Fatty V2 I have and the 2 BF ERA's I have coming from that CoOp.....hope you and Quigs can get one from someone there, if not keep your eyes open on that FB Group page for the next Group buy.

There are 'moral' considerations, and people flame each other left and right about such things elsewhere. I'm just thinking in terms of consequences here. Well, mostly.

Yes there are many things that make an atty great, subtleties of air flow, etc, then there is build quality, over all feel, looks, etc.

I don't have any cheap clones of the expensive RBAs, so I can't speak to how well they work in comparison.

But what happens when someone nails all the intricacies of atty building that make the expensive gear great, and sells their unit made of cheaper materials for jack all?

Will the vendors/makers of high end gear have to cut prices to keep above water? Will loyal fans persist in paying top dollar despite lack of any functional difference between high end gear and 'clones?'

It also raises the question, in my mind, was the high end gear ever reasonably priced to begin with? Did I/we get fleeced?

Are the cloners the bad guys, or just the vehicle of justice being visited on the rip off artists?

That's the way of business. 25 years go I was the first producer of braided Ficus house plants from one of my farms, they cost me $2.00 to grow and sold them wholesale to growers in Europe for $8, about 40,000 units a month, every airport, hotel lobby had them around the world. Even saw some of my plants in the Moscow airport. For the first few years I produced over 90% of the world market all sold thru my company in Holland. In less than 10 years every grower in central America was producing them and the cost had gone to $2.85 and sold for $3.25. Needles to say I found other products to produce. That's life...

I still like the car analogy, Porsche vs 'the minivan'; both will get ya where ya wanna go, but not everyone is driving a Porsche

Not for nothing but I've had most of the cheaper RBA's and they cant hold the Jock straps of the more high quality RBA's, and even if you mod the cheaper ones they just dont compare.

People will always copy its business unfortunately and what happens,,, but from what I have seen most of the copies of RBA's are not of the same quality as the originals.

Hey TM, yes they are,,, and built like a Brinks armored truck,, but Im not thrilled with how they did the top center post knurled positive connector but still they work very nice,, I'm running 28AWG Kanthal on both of them and they scream Out of all of them I still enjoy my Fatty v2 RBA the very best, Flavor and vapor production can not be beat on the Fatty V2. Running a Braided 34Awg coil on it and its a monster, or single 28Awg is also killer, 5 coils @ 1.5ohm@ 4.2v and I can fill a room with clouds in minutes

Is something like a 3/32" dia. x 1" or so long ceramic wick in something like a SmokeTech Genysis-Style a viable as a commercial product?

The focus should be on the wick and not the particular device.

Finally tried Aunt Lydia's bamboo. Running in my Chalice and modified Phoenix, vertical coil setup. It turned out a bit easier to set up that way than with cheesecloth. Had that earthy taste for a bit but they have settled in nicely. Now if I can get more than 2 days outta these i'll be a happy camper.

Are you guys boiling your Lydia's?...I've tried both raw and boiled (1/2 hr, 2 water changes) and I have to say there's a pretty big difference for me...not just in taste but it seems to wick better as well, it's almost like the boiling relaxes the tautness of the spin?

edit:...forgot to mention too, the Lydia's bamboo seems to have a longer acceptable life span as well in my Ody/Penny...3-4 days on CC, 5-6 on the Lydia's

did you make your modded phoenix "safe" in anyway as far as the exposed copper for feeding? or are you just roughing it?

The only safety feature I built in was the addition of an SS tube through the drilled out hole. Its pretty snug in there but I cant be sure that some of the juice isn't making contact with the mystery metal. Its been working quite well, but honestly the thought of that metal is still in the back of my mind. I'll be replacing that setup with an ERA hopefully any day now.

I didn't boil it just out of shear laziness. Guess I'll have to try that soon. After just one day of use, the flavor has settled in nicely. I'm not getting the typical flavor drift like cheesecloth would give me after the same amount of time, and the wicks still look fairly clean. I don't really notice a difference on wicking action since I'm using a bottom feeder. I just give it a good squonk about every 3-4 drags.
