Wick materials. Safe vs dangerous.

I wrap about 30' or so around the bottom edge of a cheese grater then stand it in a pot full of water and boil...after 15 mins...while holding the cheese grater to the bottom of the pan, pour out the water and repeat...that way you're not lifting the Lydia's out through the stuff you boiled off...when done, just stand the cheese grater/Lydia's out on the deck in the sun, bob's your uncle

Heh, the two months that it doesn't rain are past, some 48 consecutive days this year. I was impressed to find out that Victoria is the only place in Canada that doesn't expect snow in the winter. Here, we probably had our last summery day this year

Apparently any "bamboo" yarn have sentetics in it. After reading this I stopped using any bamboo. And I found really good soft wicking material in the same Michael's craft store: "Martha Steward" 65%cotton/35%hemp yarn. Thickness just like a standard silica. After a 3 weeks of use I'll tell you - better than anything I've tried. And I tried a lot: 100% cotton, bamboo, candle wick, ceramic rope. Even used my Ody with mesh wick which was not bad at all. But came back to Martha Steward. Love the old lady!.. LOL

Back to the silk question. Silk is a natural fiber like cotton and bamboo. It just sounds weird. I'd like to hear from a living person that has tried it. If we don't hear from somebody that has tried that could be an answer all by itself.

Just a random thought: You know, I'm not sure silk would make a very good wick even if it turned out to be super safe. I mean, water "beads" on silk sometimes. It eventually soaks in, but it may turn out that it just wouldn't wick as well as other things. Cotton is known for soaking up liquids....silk is not. I've never seen a silk dish towel. Ha. May be totally irrelevant....

Can't we just put some kind of air filter in our mouthpiece that'll catch any silica "needles"? I mean, most clearos on the market comes with silica wick and it seems convenient because you can dry burn it.

There are those thin film of air filters I think, that we can cut out a round section and attach it to our mouthpiece. That should catch any solid particle without affecting the draw much. I think I've seen those material on paint masks.

A small piece of analog filter in the mouthpiece works great. Been doing that for years when dripping..
