I've tried the bamboo today with my Penelope and it's nice and broke in but to tell you the truth, I can't tell the difference between bamboo and braided cotton. Time will tell though. I'm hoping the bamboo will last longer than the cotton. The flavor and vapor is great. :)

I hear what you're saying about the lifespan of cotton...and ya the Aunt Lydia's last about 30%-40% longer...it's all the viscoses in there that make it last :)

Just talked to them. Its $15 for 5 plus $32 shipped. So $47 to your door for 5 of them. 510 base.

Chris

Seems a little pricy for an unknown. I never understood how they can make these units for pennies but S&H is 10x what it should be.

I'll wait until it is in the US ecig supply chain. Thanks

Agree on that. All hail viscose!

It also wicks much faster than cotton. I did a quick test and posted here:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...vivi-nova-rebuild-tutorial-9.html#post7320201

The method was not rigorous, but it gave me another reason to try it again in smaller diameter wick.

Even though I'm sorta back on the quest for the perfect "500 mesh LR super fatty wick" (or for the benefit of Cy, a 500MLRSFW) I've all but abandoned all cotton (except for CC thread, which is still the best for hybrid wicks)...both my Ody and Penny are on boiled Lydia's #10...it's pretty much perfect IMO...until someone tells me they use rat poison in the production of viscose, I'm running with it...

Back to the silk question. Silk is a natural fiber like cotton and bamboo. It just sounds weird. I'd like to hear from a living person that has tried it. :p If we don't hear from somebody that has tried that could be an answer all by itself. :p

TM, how about hearing from a non "living person" that has tried it? Wouldn't that be cool!!! :p

No rat poison. Caustic lye, carbon disulfide, and sulfuric acid, but no rat poison. The last stages of production wash out the chemicals to leave the cellulose fibers. And hey, silverfish can eat it, so it can't be poisonous.

For that matter, my wife had a prescription for rat poison. She had a pulmonary embolism a couple years ago, and the anti-clotting drug she took was warfarin, which used to be used as rat poison. So even rat poison wouldn't necessarily be a deal killer :)

Subject closed. What better recommendation for it being Ok to use bamboo. I'm convinced. (That and I have a whole bag of it boiled and I'm too cheap to put it in the zombie drawer, oh hold on - we're waiting for a report from the zombies on using bamboo).

Yep. I've been using the Aunt Lydia's #10 viscose bamboo thread for two months at this point, and I don't plan on going back to the cotton balls. I'll still keep some of those aside for potential experiments, though.

Personally, I was more concerned with the potential of pesticide remnants on cotton than I am of the chemicals used in viscose bamboo thread creation. At least bamboo does not require pesticides to grow well. :p

I suppose that I should start cleaning it before use, though.
