First thread of Lydia's thru, then both ends wrapped 4 times around each leg and back thru the coil.

The 'nylon core' is for a 'conductive thread'; I have not heard anything about SS mesh having a nylon core in the strands. I would think if there was a nylon core present then when the SS wick was oxidized it would deform. When SS glows red, it is at a minimum temperature of ~400 C. Compounds which contain carbon - such as nylon - start to decompose at 400 C (carbon dioxide gas is released), and would rupture a SS thread with a nylon core.

Perfect! Thank you...

What is that coil going in?
Vivi nova 6wrap 28g A1 oval coil. I have 3 iv novas setup this way and they are awesome producers. Now to see how long the legs last without burning the grommet. If the wraps around the legs don't burn, it should be a cinch to replace the other threads without having to disassemble.

So how are you getting the threads through? I've just been wrapping a coil around 8 strands and have some that work good and bad...

Edit: Now that I'm on my computer I wanted to elaborate. I've been having issues with bamboo. When I make a coil for my penelope I tend to do it tightly, I did it the same way with silica as loose would give me tons of dry hits. Are most of you guys wrapping the coil around something and then pulling the bamboo through? I need help guys...

Should it be packed in tightly or just enough to be able to pull easily?

Just enough to be able to pull easily. Unlike silica, cotton and bamboo will swell up when juicy. If you wrap it too tight, it will choke it and not wick well. I burned a couple of my first wicks in this manner. It's an unlearning thing, I learned on silica and stainless mesh that tight is good, but that doesn't apply to more absorbent materials. Also, whatever hole the wick passes through to get juice to the coil should be treated the same way, not pinched tight, but just a tiny bit loose when dry.

I dunno if I just never noticed before, but I'm finding that the bamboo swells, and swells, and swells lol. Things don't really come to a peak for a while. My VG DIY probably has a bit to do with it, but I'm finding that the difference between 8 strands of bamboo and 5 on my 14 gauge needle wrap (ERA) is the difference between a nasty "kisssssssst" sound at the end of my drags (I'm getting dry you stupid horse, give me SPACE!) and perfect wicking. But 5 strands initially looks so damn SKIMPY, even after a ten minute soak in juice

I almost gave up on bamboo, me with my mostest is bestest, I put 8 strands in my first and wrap my coil snug. My first 3 days I kept thinking, how can Quig say this is good. Finally I started pulling out threads and when I got down to 4 it started getting great.

Are you positive that your tea bag is made from banana fibers? If so, go for it :D.

Wikipedia

That threads on teabags with lable are good wicking material itself. but you need a lot of teabags :D
