ok ok now I'm sold.
damn it, I just received the square braid cotton wicks I bought from amazon and yet to try it, and now I'm jumping right into the knitting club.

I'm vaping on the square braid right now. Great stuff. It's easier to burn than hemp, but cotton tranfers flavors differently than hemp, bamboo, silica, SS. I don't think there any "one" perfect option. Depends on your preferences, and the gear you're vaping with, and the juice, of course :) I find peppermint/menthol taste funky with bamboo; but awesome with hemp. Cotton reduces the methol some, but brings out the peppermint note.

All of the above and mucho vaper...:)

I'm trying to get the very same product, or close enough, here in euroland, but no luck so far... I've tried 3 different hemp twines (0.9 to 1.2mm) available on local markets, and only one of them would appear to be good enough for vaping.

But, and this is a big but, they all stink to high heaven, even after repeated boilings. That is, they all kept a distintictive smell/odour despite having been (separately) boiled 5 or even more times. the smell is enough to kill any flavour you may be vaping. They were not waxed twines, for the record.

Did your had any smell, to start with? Did you boil/treat it? Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Hmm.. I had odd smells with bamboo; not so much with hemp. I boiled it 3 times 15 minutes each. It has a slight earthy taste, but it quickly dissipates. I can't say it disappears completely. Also some flavors don't mix well at all with certain materials (Like bamboo and peppermint/menthol). Certainly no stinking at all with the brand that I'm using (BJ43 recommended it and it's the best I've used so far)

This has no odor to me at all. I mean, I smoked for 20+ years so my nose isn't what it once was... seriously not a bad odor that I can detect, and that's before boiling. I still have 20 meters of it not yet boiled:)

Thanks. Same here BTW with my nose/smell being 'a bit' damaged by years and years of smoking, but nevertheless I can still feel that odor from the hemp.

I've boiled my hemp twines at least 5 times each, for 3/5 min (changing water each time, of course). the bigger twines got quite hurt in the process, losing fiber and looking pretty worn out in the end.

The one I was mentioning as probably good instead survived the ordeal surprisingly well, but geez that smell just doesn't want to go away.

I'd rather avoid if possible to have some balls of that specific hemp sent to me all the way from the US, including customs and other annoyances, that's why I'm trying my luck with locally available hemp...

The eBay hemp that BJ linked to ships worldwide (no idea on what shipping costs are).
I put in an order this morning for 5yds to try.

Mmmhhh, just wondering what the shipping costs to Uranus are :D (sorry, couldn't help myself)

yes thanks saw that.. still trying to get it 'locally' as the first/best option, if possible; if not I'll investigate about importing that specific hemp to europe; out of past experience, importing from outside europe w/o using a courier is a royal pain in the ***.

I'm not sure I've got 'search' mastered as of yet. Did someone post regarding ~2mm hemp recently?

Otherwise, vaping is doing well here in the Heart of the Bluegrass.

This has a 2mm and 3mm and is the second best hemp I tried.

I repeat, I tried many hemps, even samples that came in five packs, and I lucked into this one that IMO, for my chain vaping heavy tobacco flavors beats everything else including SS.
Thanks for sharing the info, BJ.

What color are you using from the ebay link you've posted earlier in this thread? Natural, or white?

That's the one I can buy at my local Micheals and have pondered picking it a number of times...that works out pretty good, I like having thickness options...I've found in my ERA's it's better to run multiple fine than 1-2 loops of thick...probably why I've been so reluctant to step away from the Lydia's...but if it's made BJ's 1st runner-up title then winner, winner chicken dinner :D

With these thicker threads it helped to unravel them a little... These have a different braid and do not wick as good as the 1st place 1mm hemp, but still excellent. Agree with the Lydia's but the 1mm wicks so good I have actually experienced overwicking (something I thought impossible) and have had to increase my watts with this first 1mm hemp. I am vaping my 2.4 ohm oval at 10 to 12 watts, something I could no do with Lydia's.
