The 1mm hemp was still vaping great after 16 days but I just had to look inside. First pic is what it looked like after 16 days.

The wicks were a dirty from gunk but no burn. A couple of the small threads snagged when I pulled them out and broke.

Dry burned the 30g 2.4 ohm oval coil. More in next post.

I generally vape with just VG and h20. (50ml VG/Nic in VG and 8ml distilled water) Occasionally I add some peppermint, and/or menthol into the mix, but if I'm prasing it for being good, it's on VG/Nic.

Jazzy - Are you meaning to refer to a particular type or types of wicks?

...As for bamboo, Lydia just doesn't like me. I can't stand it.

There are better Bamboo's (thicker for one...less wick taste for another) than Lydia's about. I wish I could tell you the brand names, but both came to me through others' hands. Lydia's doesn't taste bad after it settles in.

Yes,
#1/0 cotton square braid. brand: Premium craft. (very good wicking after break in).
"medium" cotton flat braid (~2mm) brand: "Yaley" from Michael's (good wicking, not great)
1mm hemp that BJ recommended - excellent wicking properties and taste settles quickly
Bamboo Crochet thread. brand:Aunt Lydia's. Excellent wicking; odd taste that does not work with flavors like peppermint and menthol (horrible taste!)

BJ, Here's one that wicks as well as your 1mm hemp.

So far, WOW. Great vapor; really lets the sweetness of the VG shine. No leaking perfect for this Ody clone! 2mm ceramic channels. I'm chaining it hard; 8-10 second draw after draw and it's holding up great. I'm using the method that the Ody guys use where you add an extra piece of wick on top of the long one that extends into into the base.
In the beginning it had a slight earthy taste like the 1mm wick, but quickly disappeared after 3-5 mins of vaping.
Now we'll have to see how long it holds up. I'll keep chain vaping... for now I'm in sweet VG bliss. Clouds of vapor filling the room :)

The bottom thread in my sample pack is the same. I have not tried the 48lb yet but as I said this hemp was the second best I tried at 1mm.

I was thinking: Vaping in an Ody clone is not a real test of it's wicking abilities, although I am able to keep the mouthpiece closed and take a draw every few minutes with no dry issues so far. Nothing beats cotton for that soft billowy vape, but this hemp is doing great so far. I'll be putting it in a Vivi tank and giving it a proper test tomorrow. I'm just really pleased that it works so well in my Clone :)

The #1/0 cotton square braid that I use works well with VG, but generally I have to let it break in a day or so before I can really lay into it chain vaping. I usually will take four 4 sec. hits with about a 5 sec. break for recovery in-between. I wasn't able to chain much until my Ody clone :)

As for the 1mm hemp that BJ43 uses: It wicks extrememly well with his oval coil method of 2wicks in a vivi. I chain it many times and it doesn't start fading for me until the 4th hit or so. This is without any breaks at all. It have a burnt taste when it goes dry; more of an earthy "i'm done" sort of flavor.

This is very reassuring for me, as I always/only vape on VG (95% VG, 5%H2O)... So there's hope even for us thick-juicers on hemp. No wait, perhaps that may sound wrong in English ;)

With these thicker threads it helped to unravel them a little... These have a different braid and do not wick as good as the 1st place 1mm hemp, but still excellent. Agree with the Lydia's but the 1mm wicks so good I have actually experienced overwicking (something I thought impossible) and have had to increase my watts with this first 1mm hemp. I am vaping my 2.4 ohm oval at 10 to 12 watts, something I could no do with Lydia's.

yeah man I'm glad you said this. I used 1.5 strands in my standard 14 gauge wrapped coil, 2.1 ohms at 4.5 volts seems like its taking forever to warm up, alla dense 500 mesh on a genny. I've been cranking it, thought I was going nuts. maybe this didn't happen on my first build I used more wick and it was a bit choked and scorching, dunno. of course with the hemp i was able to scorch away for a week and not notice any issues
