IMO one of the problems with the hemp we have been getting is we don't know where it comes from. I got the 1 mm hemp from flea bay that BJ had linked to a couple weeks back. It came wrapped on a plain piece of cardboard with no id. Tbh it could be anything. It has 7 strands. One thick leader strand with 6 strands wrapped around it. Dirty gray in color like I took it from my floor mop. I dunno.

Both of mine just came in a coiled bundled in the package. No cardboard, no 'id', just two loops of hemp.

repost. hoping for some insight

As far as health concerns for cotton, does it get any better than these linked? Too bad they're not organic though, so I'd boil it to hopefully remove any pesticide: http://www.ebay.com/itm/200-RAW-FILT...item231df6f86a

I read people are using all types of shady cotton/bamboo yarns and stuff without emailing manufactures about addatives and are relying on smelling and feeling burnt test pieces to convince themselves it might not have addatives. Boiled or not. I think they assume that out of the obviously dyed choices that 'natural' means it has zero addatives. A good way to find out might be a trick question email to the manufacturer as if hoping it has addatives so that they're less likely to lie or assume it doesn't to not lose a sale.

I'm set on SS mesh for now but might add some cotton/hemp/bamboo/maybe silica since some swear it might be the safest because it's the only approved material besides maybe SS.

I'm using these in bottom coil clearomizers like Kanger Evod untill I get a mod, so I don't have to join pieces together to make length.

Thanks for the link Jazzy, I was aware of the thread but haven't been following. My initial impression was that if the material was anything "glass" like I would have the same concerns with it that I do with silica, even though its more 'solid' to the naked eye, but I never really pursued it further. I'll do some reading and give it further thought.

what are those actually made of? Is it something that might raise concerns similar to silica, etc?

Someone just posted over there 'about what it is' and this was in the description: ..."porous ceramics are made by fusing aluminum oxide grains using porcelain bond to for a strong, uniformly porous and homogeneous structure..."

And on the package of the popular PetSmart stone it now says "Composed of Fused Alumina".

Yikes! I ignored the contents of cig smoke for 45 years - now I get concerned about SS mesh, silca, cotton, and ceramic wicks. For me it'll be whats the least risky without giving up vaping altogether. That ain't likely to happen.

Abandoned... not very efficient, have about 8ft of quartz tubing. Did find a use for some, it makes a good center air tube when I convert the A7 to a cart.:)

@ Uncle BJ et al.

whatever came of using the pyrex tube as an insulator on SS mesh? did you all abandon this for one reason or another?

Hey... Fellow members of the Evilgrym knitting club, Move over and make room for the new influx of ex. ss and fishwick users thats sure to be coming soon. :>)

I didn't know what you were talking about until after I read the SS oxidation thread. Yikes! Hot spots and shorts are frustrating. Breaking a fish wick trying to adjust the coils is frustrating. Cotton/etc just works and works well. Hopefully, we're on the safer team.

I sent lovepedal this .
Received the 2mm and it is very good for our purpose. I have gotten a few comments from several members of the forum that the 1mm they received from you only had 7 strands instead of the 12 stands I had posted on the 1mm I got from you. For our use more thin strands is better and the 7 strand does not wick as well. If you have a source for 1mm, 2mm, and 3mm like what you have sent me that has 12 or more strands, this would be of great interest to us.

Edit: Just got this back from them.
Thank you for your interest and getting the word out to the world!! I appreciate that. you are right, 2mm does have 12 strand. I am not sure what our 3mm would have. I will check into that. I have a company that I get it from. Right now they are out of stock on our 2mm. Here in two more weeks they will be getting more. It takes one day for them to get it to us once they get it. Yes they do have the 3mm and 4mm. I could get up to 4mm strength. Let everyone know to look us up in two weeks and we will have all of their needs available. I am going to place an order all at once when they get their 2mm. Let me know if there is anything else you need. I have a variety of places I buy from. :)

Damn, well thanks for reaching out to the vendor BJ, maybe we can get to the bottom of this! I have to say I've had zero problems getting it to rock in my bottom feed RBAs, I endup untwisting, doubling over and pulling out ~4 strands after I run it through my standard 14 gauge needle coil. Only had issues when I tried to use it in a top coil scenario, but I didn't exactly spend a ton of energy on that so...
