I see, thank you.

So comparing the info reported by different people in this thread it'd seem we have multiple, significantly different options for the 1mm and 2mm hemp from 'lovepedal'... Sort of a wheel of fortune, in other words :D

hopefully now that BJ got in touch with him/her we can hope for better standardisation and maybe even a dedicated, consistent 'vaping hemp' product line from them. I can foresee prices skyrocketing, though.. time will tell.

The 1mm is 7 strands twisted. Wicks great in my ViviNovas.(using 2 x 1mm wicks coiled)
The 2mm is 12 strands twisted. Wicks good in my Ody Clone
BeadSmith 2mm is 12 strands braided. Wicks okay in my Ody Clone.

As BJ43 mentioned, the twisted twine wicks better than the braided twine. The BeadSmith 2mm also has 12 strands, but it's 3 ropes 4 strands each. Just a matter of finding the company that makes the type of twisted twine that works for us.

I sent this to lovepedal:
Dear lovepedal,

Thank you Vanesa. It is important that all the sizes have the most strands possible and twisted, not braided. It may be of interest for you to do a multiple pack like these:
10 20 36 48lb Natural Hemp Cord 4 Size | eBay
This brand was not as good as yours because it is a braided weave.
Looking forward to what you can find for us.

so it looks like jazzy and I, we got the same thing for the 1mm?

and BJ to be clear, what you posted a few back was your 1mm with 12 strands? or 2mm?

1mm with 12 strands
The 2mm also has 12 thicker strands..
And the 2mm is not really, more like 1.5mm as someone else stated.

I'm playing with 'organics' in gennies now

My first attempt was batton rolled up and slid through an existing DID coil. I have to say it performed stellar for about 7 mls, then I got excited about trying an 'unoxidized' set up with mesh and pulled it out

I tried the same thing on my ZAP, and for some reason kept getting mild scorching at the top coil. Coils are more widely spiced on the ZAP and the juice has a bit further to travel vs. the DID, so that maybe the issue.

Keeping the existing coils on the ZAP I pulled the tank off and ran 3 7-strand bamboo threads through the coil. The coil was built on a 7/64th drill bit. The bamboo taste is taking its time going away, but about 2 mls in now and its steadily improving. We'll see where this goes.

BJ, bluegrass, and anyone else doing this, I'd be interested to see your results and techniques.

I use batten in my DID clones. It is MUCH easier to put the cotton through the coil if you're using 28 or 29 gauge kanthal. That being said this is my technique...I like to try and align the fibers length wise by stretching the cotton. If I don't get good alignment, I fold the wick in half then then stretch again. Once satisfied I very lightly roll into a wick shape. This seems to make it easier to get down to the desired diameter without pulling the batten apart. I do not roll the wick tight at all. I don't want much, if any, compression of the wick once it's in the coil. Keep it fluffy and a little bit bigger than the coil diameter. To put it in the coil I do twist about an 1" tightly to make it easier to thread through the coil. I then use a ~22 gauge syringe needle that I've cut the point off of to push the wick through the coil. The area where the needle was cut has a slight roughness to it that grabs the cotton. If I meet any resistance because the wick is too thick I pull it out and stretch it a little. I also find it easier to NOT pull the needle all the way out for the next push. Starting from outside the coil bunches up the wick and makes it too dense and thick. I like the coils fairly close together. That seems to keep the top from scorching. YMMV.

My buddy has been running cotton baton in his Line forever now and he's nailed it. He makes his baton wicks so that they will just slide in and leaves a good 1/2 - 5/8 sticking up, then he folds it over to double up the wick, slips in a pin and freehand wraps a looseish coil leaving a 1/8 - 3/16 nub sticking up above the coil...he's not a super heavy vapor, I can't chain it but he's pretty happy, all that matters

Does he roll the wicks tight or leave it a little fluffy? Sounds like it's too tight. I can chain and chain and chain and it still hits good.

I miss you quigs ;)

That's a key point here, how heavy do you want to have at it? I tend to machine gun vape and rest, and that's about the worst way to handle a "less than perfect" wicking system.

Maybe joining the quigs train soon and selling everything off and going 100% feeder

Great post bluegrass thank you. My DID coils tend to look a lot like that, I'm wondering if that's why the baton worked so well vs the Zen where the coils are all angled spread out

Still crunching the hemp Zen and it still tastes off. Only thing more stubborn than hemp is a horse who vapes

Cyrus,

A few posts back, people were saying the same thing about their Hemp Twine. BJ found that some people had not received the same thing he had. Maybe you got the wrong thing sent to you.

Look back a little to see what I'm talking about. That eBay Vendor is supposed to be rectifying the situation.

:toast:

??? You have Mr. Ed Vaping now? ???
