Wick Problems with the DID Clone

Hello all.

first let me say thank you to all who read and post.

Long story short. my first rba came today, so all week I have been watching videos and reading posts to prepare.
My problem I believe is with the wiring portion of making a wick. I do not get any glowing wires and the Provari and Darwin do not show an attty present.
I use SS 500 Mesh and have tried 28, 32, and 36 gauge Kethel wire.
I use the Oxidation technique of buring the entire piece of mesh, then rolling with a paper clip and burning. Dipping in water while burning 3 times, then diping in pure VG while burning 3 times. After all that I have a nice looking wick that first nicely into the DiD. I have tried wrapping the coils tightly, loosely and I can't gt any action from anything I do.

I wrap the bottom wire clockwise around the negative wick and conter clockwise around the positive wick.

I will post some pics I just took so you can see my set up. I have also removed the fill screw, but there is not any liquid in the rba yet. I was hoping to see the coild glow red, but I am sadly stuck.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I wanted to start with a cheap RBA to make sure I could handle it before I buy the 3ml Cobra which I think would be a great fit for me if I can get the hang of this.

On these pics I have not trimmed the wires yet because I keep unrapping and rerapping trying to get a spark/connection.
Does it matter if you rerap the same wire multiple times?

I just bought one as well. The only coils I've made that work are with the tin paper under the coil that you burn off. Otherwise I can only get a coil or two to glow. I've only tried a handful of times.

If that's pictures of the DID clone, then what happened to your center pin? There should not be any extra sticking out of the top above the coil base- the three screws should take up the whole end of the center pin.

Check the very bottom of your DID clone and look at the center post- it's probably sucked up inside and not making contact.

Ninja appears to be correct,get a multimeter,hook up your atty to your device.While holding one meter lead to the neg.screw and the other lead to the pos. center post fire your device.The meter should read about 4.2v.If not it's a problem with the center post.(u can check it without the wick).Good luck.

Still no dice.. The adjustment was definately off, which I fixed...... Just to clarify, If I have a short or bad coil wraps, will that prevent any of them from glowing red? As of now Provari and Darin do not register anything and no coils are heating at all.

I have tredi several different methods of wrapping my coils. As many posts have said it takes awhile and some practice which I do not mind. I just want to be sure that something is not physically wrong with the MOD.

Do you have to trip the wires when troubleshooting or does that not matter?

I have a voltage meter. I will try that, but I am not sure if it is the same as a multimeter.....

You may have split one of the plastic/teflon (whatever they are made of ) insulators from having the positve post pulled up so high.
Try this :
Remove wick and coil from the did clone and totally disassemble the thing .
Look at all pieces including plastic insulators and o-rings . If anything is torn ,look for replacements.
If everything looks ok, reassemble. Tighten firmly but not vice like .
Find a drill bit that fits snugly though fill hole and wrap your coils around it on the end that is without the grooves.
Spread your coils out evenly and place the drill bit in the fill hole and make connections to negative post and positive post .
Fire coil and see if it glows evenly.
If so gently feed your wick through the coil and fire it again . Make adjustments as necessary .

If u hold the leads to the connector on your battery holder,does it read the correct volts? if so it should work on your atty.
From those pictures your center post appears to be way too high above the top nut.Look at the bottom of your center post and see if it is sticking out of the sleve enough to make contact with the atty connector on your battery holder.

Good advice. I checked them all and everything looks in tact.... My Did may be a DuD. Have youy guys heard of many problems with them?

Looking at this set of pictures , the positive contact is too far in to make contact with the battery. I still suggest you disassemble entirely and reassemble the dud.

The center post from the bottom should be about flush with the thread part.

your definately not making a connection into the provari. i bought one of these clones and had the same problem on my provari. if you tighten up the nuts on the positive post it retracts the center pin to much and draws up the center pin connection from the base of your device. you need to see the positive connection sticking out past the 510 base. so that when you screw it into the provari it makes a connection.

You guys were right on. My center pin is now adjusted correctly. I also checked all the white o-ring or what ever they are called and everything is in tact... I am going to make another wick and try this agin.

Good luck aruga and I have the same DID clone and also having wicking issues..

Once you get your coils going work out those hotspots and use the tricks/tips others have mentioned here. If you have wicking problems afterwards I've found just today that leaving the fill hole screw out helps with some of my wicking issues but of course you have to watch how it lies without spilling juice all over.

I've also found that with the screw in you can tilt it, wick side down, for a few seconds which helps it wick more properly. I'm still fighting through some initial issues but it does get better and you as well will get much better at it just going through all of this! No better way to learn than by figuring issues out IMO

1.9 ohm 500 SS mesh wick and vaping like a freight train!!!

Thanks so much for the help everyone.. Now its time to look into the 2 twisted wicks and try for a 2.5 ohm and I will be in heaven.
Cobra here I come (when they are back in stock)!!
