I was trying to clean my coil unit today (bcc). I was taking it apart and cleaning everything and i dry burned the coils to clean them. When i was putting it back together the wick that came with it was in about 15 to 20 strands and hard to keep the same length. What is the trick to keeping them together and the same length? Was driving me up a wall! Ended up using a different coil unit because when i did finally get it together it tasted burnt still. Thanks for the help!

Silica just tends to wear out easily. I had a strand of silica in a bag with some of my other supplies for maybe 2 weeks. I tried to use it and it basically fell apart in my hands.

And as for dry burning, It really doesn't work all that well because you will still have that burnt taste. If you learn how to rebuild coils it will be much better than trying to dry burn them.

What kind of coil are you using by the way?

guess you are talking about the 'flavor wick' that sit ON TOP of the coil/wick ?
the trick is to keep flavor wick wet so it won't unravel...

silica won't burn, so the reason the burnt taste remains is
you need to dry-burn it longer--something like a SOFT toothbrush
to gently scrub after it cools (burn/cool/brush/burn/cool/brush) helps at times...

some wicks need a soak in PGA / Vodka to get stubborn scents out...

once you get the knack-of-it, it goes qwik and turns out like new
and you can make bcc coils last a long time...

JMO :)

Thanks for the replies! Yeah i figured out i was talking about the flavor wick. I really want an RBA but posts I've seen have me scared because i only have a vision spinner 1300. I've seen posts where people say don't use an RBA with a twist or spinner so i haven't pulled the trigger. I also hear cotton is better? My coils don't have a name on them. They just say CC Clear Clearomizer and under that it says Coil Unit. They are 1.8 ohm.

Might depend on rda. I have a smoketech UDA on a ego c twist and it works well for me. but of course I switched to a micro coil (1.5 ohm) and cotton wicking on it. As far as cotton I greatly prefer it to silica for flavor. Just be sure to pull the cotton before dry burning the coils :) use same coil/wicks on my protanks too.

You don't really need to take everything apart to clean it. Just rinse the coil head in hot running water, shake it dry and then dry burn if you want. I'd rinse mine every 2-4 take fills (less when using clear juices, more when using darker liquid) and dry burn every 3-4 days or so.

Silica cannot burn so any burnt taste remaining from the coil head after cleaning is residual juice gunk on the coils - or it's a dry hit. I suppose you might have scorched the rubber grommet in the bottom of the coil head - if you have, the burnt taste will never go away and the only option is to replace the head.

I've never had to soak anything before, but I can see how it would be handy to remove any strong flavors from the coils.

I've also used an Igo-L RDA on a spinner for a short time with no problems. You do need a way to check resistance (I usually used it around 1.6-1.8 ohms) and make sure there are no shorts before mounting it on your battery. A multimeter or a mod that has a resistance reader is a minimum requirement. Of course I know using a Spinner is not recommended for an RDA but that is mainly because they have such a low amp rating that it's easy to get yourself into trouble over-stressing the battery. This can lead to serious damage to the battery or to you.

As for cotton, yes, for me it gives a much cleaner tasting vape. Plus it's easy to change a wick out.
