So, when I wicked my Kayfun 3.1 ES (clone), I would trim the tails of my cotton at an angle, so the tops were longer than the bottoms, and left the top of the tails (ie the outside of the wick) touching down to the base. I did this because if the cotton were to move out of position (ie outward), the longest part would move up and out staying above the juice channels thus not blocking them, and the shortest part (along the wall) would be too short to block the juice channels at all. This was perfect as the juice channels were on the outer most edge of the base.

I tried this multiple times with the Kayfun 4 (clone), and it just wasn't working like it did with the 3.1 ES. So here's how I wick my kayfun 4 now for optimum results (for me);

I now cut my cotton tails straight as opposed to at an angle; however, I make sure they are NOT touching the base; I cut them so they are about .5-1mm above the base. I do this because as opposed to the older versions having channels on the outside, the Kayfun 4 has 2 juice flow holes on each side in the middle of the base. Using the older technique, having the cotton touch the base just made it harder for air to escape, thus making it wick inefficiently. Now with the cotton going down the walls and stopping just above the base, the cotton sits directly above those juice holes, yet the cotton does not touch or block off the juice holes. As much as it may seem like it won't wick as I described, the wick sitting .5-1mm above the juice holes is in fact close enough for it to touch the liquid and wick it up; it does not have to be touching the base.

This has worked for me, and I am using MAX VG liquid. However, this may not be everyone's suited way to wick it.

Does anyone else wick their Kayfun 4 differently than previous versions? If so, what do you do differently? Or do you just do it different than I in general? I would love to hear how other people wick it to suit them.

With the K4 using holes in the bottom of the deck cutting the wick at an angle may not have the desired affect. I usually cut my wick square and quite long compared to what I've seen in videos and it wicks perfectly every time. I cut the wick as wide as the base of the atty, put the chimney on and tuck the wick inside. I use this build for all my Kayfuns and Sub Tank.

Every now and then I cut the wick to just meet the deck like the videos show and I get gurgling. My results my be dependent on the resistance of my builds and wattage I use which is usually 1.8 ohms and 10 to 13 watts.

With a lower resistance and higher wattage I could see that my method may not be able to wick fast enough but then I'm after flavor not clouds.

Thanks I've been stressing over this a few days now.. will try your "deliberate gap" when I get home

Hope its the magic missing key...
