I had some Smoketech 3.2Ω cartos I had bought to tied me over while I waited on Ikenvapes to be available. I mostly use carto tanks, and have for awhile.

Earlier this week, one evening I had changed a carto and refilled the tank. All was well until the next morning when I got a split second of burnt taste followed by an E1 error on my ProVari (short). I was on my way to work at the time, so it got set aside for a new tank.

The 2nd tank had a day or so of use, and then started tasting a bit off. I checked the ohms, and that 3.2Ω carto was now reading 4.0. So, I swapped that one out, too. In my experience, this brand carto goes up about .2Ω when it needs to be changed. But this was a big jump.

Anyone else experience this, or have any insight to why it occurred? It's not my juice or ProVari, as I have used both for quite awhile with no issues. And my voltage was not set too high for the ohms of the carto. This is my usual setup. Never had an issue like this before.

I should also mention that these were prepuched cartos. I do not punch my own. And they were neither flooded or dry prior to my incidents.

I always check the ohm on a new cartotank setup and compare it to what "its supposed to be" with my Provari. Normally they are spot on to what they are advertised. However, some are 0.2 +/- off. I have rarely seen the resistance change as much as 0.5 ohm over time as I use the carto. I can't say for certain why this happens, but I suspect it may well have to do with burnt juice/gunk buildup on the heating coil, changing the resistance of the coil.

On a side note, never test-check the resistance of any atomizer device which is dry with a Provari. It measures resistance "under load", which means it fires current to the atomizer while measuring the ohm. Although this is considered the more accurate method to test atty resistance, this can burn the filler in an unfilled cartomizer.

I always check resustabce when I change out the carto. It was fine the night before. I also had switched the tank to my other ProVari and checed it again at that time to make sure I had it all set correctly. All was good, then the burnt taste and e1 error all of a sudden.

I would say burnt juice might be the answer, but it happened to the other carto by making a big jump in ohms. They were 2 different juices and both are particulant-free as far as I can tell.

So, I think the answer is fine Chinese manufacturing. And, I'm done with Smoketech cartos. Gonna try my Ikenvapes next, and keep the Smoketechs for emergencies.

ETA: I have an ohm-checker I can use for when I forget what ohm cartos I bought. I had tried several to see what I liked best.
