this is absolutely ridiculous. she went for a work physical and drug test, she finally got a job. the form she filled out asked about tobacco usage. she was unsure of what to put down so she checked yes. when she was given the physical they asked her how much she smoked. she said, i dont smoke i vape. they said, ok we will put you down as a moderate smoker. my wife was actually ...... off. moderate smoker? my wife explained she hasn't lit a cigarette in over 3 years. i think its non-sense and insulting. im sick and tired of hearing people tell me no smoking in their house and that i am still a smoker. look, if you don't want to vape in your house, fine its your house. however call it what it is, its not smoking; not even close in either the act of vaping or smoking, or the health effects to the user or bystanders. my wife only vapes 2 MG strength yet was labeled a smoker. outrageous. people are so stupid

I so much disagree with the FDA garbage of labeling vaping products as tobacco products that I'll put down NO on any application. If I know they would test for it, I'll vape 0 nic for a week before the test. I'll stand by my rights no matter what.

If someone asked me if I was a tobacco user I would say no. Just because the fda is deeming all we use as a tobacco product doesn't make it a tobacco product!!! If it had asked if I was a nicotine user I would have had to be honest and said yes.

Yeah, I'm with the rest. I'm really sorry this happened but seems like checking YES on tobacco usage is asking for trouble. I don't use tobacco. I use nicotine.

A question about "NICOTINE USAGE" would be harder to argue away with semantics, but that doesn't sound like what happened here.

I'm in the same camp of all the previous replies. When I visit the doctor and fill out those dreaded forms, under tobacco use, I check no. I do not vape 0 nic, but more importantly, I certainly do not use tobacco. Been doing this for years, haven't had an issue yet.

Agreed. Being a smoker is one thing. Being a nicotine user is another. Either way, the premium will likely be higher than for the non smoker/non nicotine user. But, it's why I would want clarification. Worst case scenario: If you answer NO, and at some point, you are tested and nicotine is found in your system, you could be denied coverage.

What if you are a heavy potato eater?
Imagine, no signs of tobacco use whatsoever, but nic in your system. How they going to answer that if you refuse to tell them you vape? How they going to PROVE you smoke?
AFAIC, Vaping is not smoking, and in no way should be associated with smoking, so unless someone asks point blank if I vape, its non of their busibodieness.

Too little nicotine in potato. Even in eggplant. Level of cotinine (it's what tested) in a body of vegetable eater is well known and is much lower than that of vaper.

Do you have ANY idea how many potatoes you would have to eat to equal even a single cigarette's worth of nicotine?

I know people love to point out plants like tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplant as also having nicotine, but the actual amount of nicotine in these plants is infinitesimal. With potatoes you would have to eat about 140 grams (About 1/3rd of a pound) to absorb a single microgram of nicotine.

That means you would have to eat around 308 pounds of potatoes to absorb a single mg of nicotine.

Or to put it another way, if you're eating entire 50lb bags of potatoes....

That is equal to a single cigarette.

To me, it is not really even a thought. I say no. In the previous posts it was brought up as to the difference and the inaccurate mindset of some people.

Sadly, I just found out how intrusive people/organizations can access my medical history. Every time I get asked the question, I say I quit and the date that I stopped lighting cigarettes. That is it, I don't discuss anything else.

My life insurance payment went down, my health insurance premiums went down, and my wallet went up. Again, I don't discuss it, debate it, or expose myself to idiots.

Ya, I knew that. But my point was, who the hell are they to tell me how many potatoes I eat?

If you ate that many taters, I highly doubt you'd be walking into the interview. They'd be wheeling you in.

I would say No to tobacco usage, cigarettes, etc. E-cigs don't use tobacco. I list myself as a former smoker and in no way do I feel it's a dishonest claim. If cornered about nicotine usage, I don't know, I might consider saying I use a patch or gum now and again if I didn't feel like getting into a big debate about vaping.
