i totally agree and too see the great potential in e-cigarettes for the future.... but the main obstacle currently might to get some kind of endorsement for the product AS a healthier alternative to smoking, both to the smoker and those around him..... and the 1st thing needed to put this forward is to have some kind of extensive medical study and tests being done to prove this and the safety of inhaling the vapour mix.

another question would be since most countries have banned the advertising of cigarettes, will it affect the marketing of the device such as e-cigarettes? since there is a substantial chance that more young people may pick up a new habit of inhaling nicotine in vapour form which is potrayed as "safer", and a new social problem may arise. thus i can see why some governments such as thailand have shown concerns and banned the usage of e-cigs in certain places(i read this here somewhere... correct me if i'm wrong).

i think it will need a big company to take up this risk/opportunity to enter the market to provide the resources to provide the necessary studies to back up this new concept of e-smoking, plus fund a proper R&D project to develop the technology before the prophecy can be realised...

just my 2 cents worth....

Well it's been almost 2 years since I started this thread !!

My thoughts now after all this time ......

Well, personally I don't think there is much chance of e-cigs really catching on until you can buy them in every supermarket (next to the Marlboro's!) with e-juice at prices that are dirt cheap !!

This won't happen (if ever!) until :-

1) The legal/medical aspects are completely and satisfactorily settled

2) E-cig technology is perfected and quality improved so that they are 100% reliable and just as convenient as a pack of 20 and a Zippo - ie batteries that last a full day, cartridges that last a full day, atomisers that last at least a year, consistent vape/hit/flavour etc

3) E-cig starter kits costing just 9.99 and months supply of e-juice (100ml ?) available for no more than 9.99

4) Major investment by a Blue Chip company to give the product a serious corporate brand and develop consumer confidence

5) A huge marketing campaign covering TV, Radio and Press to cultivate a "cool" image for Vaping - the "better for your health" angle just doesn't cut it as most smokers would just quit if they were significantly worried about all the negative aspects of cigarettes

I don't see any of this happening any time soon, so reckon e-cigs will sadly remain just an Internet novelty ...... and Vaping will unfortunately stay a very small sub-culture for many years to come ...... or am I wrong ??

(Please tell me I'm wrong !!)
