Will flavor concentrate survive the cold?

My shipment of flavor concentrates from wizard was scheduled for delivery last Friday but due to extreme weather my building hasn't received any mail since then, meaning my package is most likely sitting in some truck somewhere exposed to subzero degree temps for four days now. I'm sure they are frozen solid and hopefully the little glass containers haven't burst. I've heard you should store flavors at room temperature and not refrigerate them, so my question is when and if I finally get them, do you think they're even going to be usable after being frozen for so long? Will the taste be diminished? Anyone with any experience with something like this have any advice?

Hey there!

Wizard labs does a very good job with shipping and making sure everything is safe. As nicotine is a pretty dangerous chemical if exposed long enough to someone in liquid form they take all 'proper precautions when shipping. They ship with bubble wrap with small heat saving packs, usually.

There's no nicotine in this particular shipment. Just flavor concentrates as I said. Bubble wrap isn't going to keep it from freezing. Anyone have any experience with dealing with frozen flavor concentrates? Are the flavors going to be ruined. I'd hate to mix up a batch of DIY only to discover the flavor has been ruined.

Sorry, perhaps this should have been posted in the DIY section. Please move if appropriate. Thanks.

I asked my chemist friend (Doesn't everybody have one?) and he said that the cold shouldn't harm the flavor if you're slow and careful with the thawing process. Start it in the fridge and then ease it to room temp. Some organic flavors may be "slightly" muted but artificial and especially alcohol based will generally be shelf stable at most temps. No worries and good luck.

My 65%vg 35%pg Caramel Coffee shipped out of the State of Washington regular U.S. Mail last Friday
to here in Minnesota... reaching minus -50 degrees arrived here mighty cold but thawed out just fine
and you can bet this old geezer is really enjoying it to the hilt... vaping away... yuppers!

Sure hope you concentrates do alright ... glass and cold can do funny things...

Just remember to check you mail.
Didn't go outside yesterday because it was -10 and my 120ml of Chai showed up, got it out of the cold this morning and it looks/smells/tastes like a normal batch but better safe than sorry. It was definitely just as cold as outside, whoops!

I haven't received mail since last Thursday, still nothing today. I think they are boycotting the streets that aren't plowed. All my mail is in limbo including the package in question, I'm assuming in a truck because the tracking number says it's out for delivery and the status hasn't changed since last Friday. So it's been out there in the cold a long time already, -20 degrees yesterday.

Good to know. Not all flavor concentrates are pg or alcohol based, some are just water based, those are the one that could freeze and even make the glass container crack.
