Hi,

I wanted to introduce myself to this forum.

I have been an on/off smoker for nearly 20years. I quit for about 7 years, but have gone back and forth quitting. My ex boyfriend met someone who was vaping and recommended it to me for my health.

I have to say, I love it!

I no longer smell bad, I'm regaining my taste, and best of all, I can smoke indoors without anyone being the wiser.

I am going to be moving to a new place, where the landlord is very against smoking at all because she is allergic. Does anybody have an idea if she will notice the vape and might have an allergic reaction?

Thanks!

I would say talk to her about it. The answer is no, unless she walks into your house right as you are vapoing and see the vapor , she wont know. It smells like whatever flavor you have. I recommend telling her, just because if someone unknowingly discovered your stash it might look like drugs. So better safe than sorry. Gather info and show it to her . Good luck.

If you're already set to move in, then I'd say don't worry about it. It's not smoking, so it won't set off her allergies. Vaping has nothing in common with smoking (except maybe the nicotine) and won't set off smoke allergies.

I'd also personally recommend you don't say anything about it. She said don't smoke, so don't smoke, and you're good. If she happens to ever see the vapor, then explain it. No sense in getting her riled up unnecessarily if she doesn't know about vaping.

And, with all due respect to the last poster, I wouldn't feel a need to mention I have stuff around my house that ignorant people might think was drug-related. That's none of her business, and I wouldn't find it worth worrying about. It's legal, it's not drugs, and you're doing nothing wrong. There's no need to be nervous that someone will think you are, and certainly no need to worry your landlady about it.

I'm a landlord. There's no way that I would ever know.

I have not thought about long term exposure to vaping but have been in plenty of places where chain smokers lived, sedentary, for dozens of years. Yellow walls, hvac vents full of crud.

Don't think that's an issue w/vaping.

In reality, a lot of security deposit deductions are taken from cig smoking. Getting rid of the smell is one thing, burns in carpet, on floors, bathroom vanity tops, countertops, etc.

Don't think any of these are issues w/vaping.

I agree with the "don't tell" camp. Yes, there can be a bit of a lingering smell, but certainly no more so than scented candles, air fresheners, incense, etc. I have vaped in non-smoking hotel rooms with "detectors" in them and have never had any issues. Since you are not smoking you are not violating the rules and it's none of her business IMO.

a lot of people here saying they will never know...

thats very incorrect as a lot of juices will emit a strong smell of tobacco base or other flavours...i would definately let them know what your doing

The odor would linger no longer than something like a candle or room freshener.

Welcome to ECF and Congrats!! Vaping = Water Vapor

I'm sorry; but vaping DOES NOT equal water vapor :). While there is some water in the exhaled vapor; the majority of it is the PG/VG from the eliquid being used.

(sorry, just see this so often on the cig-alike sites)

@OP: I agree with the ones saying don't tell. I would print out some of the info from CASAA.org just to have on hand if it does come up.

Do NOT talk to your landlord in advance!!!!!!!!!!!

It is sometimes better to ask forgiveness rather than ask permission. If your landlord is not savvy to e-cigs and what they are she could lower the boom and forbid it. What she doesn't know won't hurt her...the smell will dissipate almost instantly and there will be no smoke scum or lingering residue anywhere. It won't hurt her or make her allergies flare up. What she doesn't know won't hurt her. In this case: Really!

Agree 100%.

I often have the task of inspecting apartments & houses at move out, to be certain the resident moving out should get their Security Deposit back. I simply can't fathom how ecig use would affect a units interior to the point that I could 'see' the damage at move-out. Unless of course you are exhaling every drag inside your oven or another appliance and get the inernals all gunked up with pg/vg. Obviously that's a stretch!!

Vape on & don't tell your landlord.
