Everywhere I go
Serious ?.

Am planning a hiking/camping trip on the Appalachian Trail
in bear country.
(wolves, coyotes and other nice critters too)

No food is to be brought into tents @ camp sites.

It must be stored in provided "bear boxes".

I'm not concerned about daytime whilst hiking
but rather @ night whilst in my tent
in the deep wilderness.

I'm a bit concerned the flavors (fruits, chocolates, etc.) might
be a bear trap.

Any experience, insights on this issue?

Kind Regards

According to The American Bear Association-VSWS Kids' Questions it looks like they like stuff that's similar to what we vape, so I'd lock up the e-cig goodies at night:

[FONT=Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, san-serif]Although they are classified as carnivores, or meat-eaters, bears are really omnivores, like we are. They eat meat and plants. About 90% of the diet of eastern black bears is plants — grasses, leaves, buds, flowers, mushrooms, berries

and other fruits, and nuts, including acorns

. Most of the meat they eat is insects.

Thanks for that. East Coast bears
are *nice* bears! :)

That's a nice tidbit to reassure
(try not to act like an insect)

Seems it might be prudent to not vape at night
in the tent though after perusing the replies to this thread though.

Not feeling like a guinea pig.

I like the suggestion to go analog for the periods at night.

(~cough~)

I live in bear country. We have had one on our deck. They have an unbelievable sense of smell. They have been known to break into homes for scented candles. I would NOT have my ecig or juice in my tent. (but then again, you wouldn't find me in a tent ;) ) But then, you will probably smell like chocolate and fruit if you have been vaping anyway. Just don't use anything 'nuts and berry' smelling!

LOL - repeat that to yourself three times if you come face to face with one. :)

I think we should all keep this in mind at all times. ;)

Agreed. Also, you might want to consider hardcore vaping :headbang: with just VG and PG mix and no flavors at all while you're on your trip in the wilderness.

Well, I found this if one comes around -> Bear Repellent Pepper Spray

Clip from here

Scent Deterrents
A bear’s nose is 100 times more sensitive than a human’s. If you find bleach or ammonia fumes unpleasant, you can imagine what they smell like to a bear. Bleach or ammonia-based cleaners are good for trash cans and other areas where strong scents could attract bears. Some people have had some success with covered buckets or other containers filled with bleach or ammonia, with holes punched in the lids to let the scent out, placed outside bear-accessible doors and windows. Bears also dislike the strong scent of pine-based cleaners, but avoid using anything with a fresh, lemony or fruity smell. And never mix bleach and ammonia; the combination produces fumes that can be deadly to both people and bears
