Home Depot :sku 754-670 SS wire 1/16 = .26c a foot i got 2 feet. Also sku: 453-160 wire rope 3/32 .33c a foot, i also got 2 ft. My 1st wire wick was a 3/32 coiled direct on wire... coil pop'd twice, i was not happy.. shorted out and pop'd. So i move to the 1/16 wire with a little 400SS mesh as insulator under coil, this wick has no hot spots, shoots vaper 3 inches out... so i will say this is the wick set up i will keep running for a week. so far, i am very happy with set up, no brake in needed. Now this wont replace my ceramic, but is sure will replace my ss rolled wicks. Have a great day.

I landed in a similar place. I love the wire rope (with a layer of two of mesh as diaper just from the wick hole to the top) as compared to mesh alone. I use the 7X7 1/16th as it has less heat sink effect, then just put enough mesh wraps on it to fill whatever size hole I need to fill. I think it makes a GREAT wick for the rigors of travel and day to day vaping as it VERY robust and hot-spot/shorts are rarely an issue. It also wicks great! The ceramic is a better vape, but since it is sooooo fragile I only use it at home now. So ceramic for around the house, and wire rope for general carrying around. A few pieces of wire rope are also in my emergency vape repair kit. Since I am using a layer or three of oxidized mesh as a diaper, I dont torch the rope at all, that shiny SS rope looks pretty good sticking down in my Ginny....

Try using xs-116 braided silica sleeving instead of mesh for that diaper. You'll love it.

Ok, so i pulled a carto apart. looking for the insulator inside. Insulator fits in 1/8 hole on my mini did. Cut a 3/32 SS wire (SKU 453-160 from HD @.33c a foot) Put insulator over top, 5 wraps of 32g kenthal.. Check res on vamo = 2.6 ohm.. a bit high for the mechanical this did sits on, but.. lets keep testing. I was not sure I wanted the insulator under the coil. BUT I SURE DO. @ v4 on the vamo this thing is shooting vape straight out. So i guess i will take this with me to work tomorow to keep testing. I have no fear this will brake a wick in my pocket, its a SS wick. Just liking this SS wick so much, flavor is full, no brake in period like a ceramic.photo(1).jpgphoto.jpg

XfooYen, no need the insulator from kidney punch... tear an old carto open, pull from top. take the insulator tube out & its perfect!!! So here is a .01c SS wick, free insulator from carto & 32g kenthal wire!! I am letting my ceramics soak another few days, this is my favorite SAFE wick so far. Ceramics going to stay at home now.
