Ok, so i pulled a carto apart. looking for the insulator inside. Insulator fits in 1/8 hole on my mini did. Cut a 3/32 SS wire (SKU 453-160 from HD @.33c a foot) Put insulator over top, 5 wraps of 32g kenthal.. Check res on vamo = 2.6 ohm.. a bit high for the mechanical this did sits on, but.. lets keep testing. I was not sure I wanted the insulator under the coil. BUT I SURE DO. @ v4 on the vamo this thing is shooting vape straight out. So i guess i will take this with me to work tomorow to keep testing. I have no fear this will brake a wick in my pocket, its a SS wick. Just liking this SS wick so much, flavor is full, no brake in period like a ceramic.View attachment 209919View attachment 209920

XfooYen, no need the insulator from kidney punch... tear an old carto open, pull from top. take the insulator tube out & its perfect!!! So here is a .01c SS wick, free insulator from carto & 32g kenthal wire!! I am letting my ceramics soak another few days, this is my favorite SAFE wick so far. Ceramics going to stay at home now.

Good idea. How do those insulators fare under a torch? The silica sleeving holds up to a lot of heat without burning at all. That's a must.

I did torch the carto insulator to check, it seems to burn under blue flame. but that could be the old ???? fluid that was there, or the vodka the cartos were soaking in. I will keep vaping this a few days and see how it looks. So far I like it, just need to drop the coils. I want 1 - 1.4 ohm only. I will put up more pix, but my iphone is a pain.

    Best vape yet...

Tried a new wick and did not oxidize it. I unwrapped it to get the nylon threads out and cleaned it with alcohol then wrapped it back up. Then I wrapped the top 1/2" with silica and wrapped the coil. 32g double 3/2 coil, .8ohm. No hotspots to deal with, I have yet to get a dry hit and flavor is amazing.

And I agree with mikepetro, the un-oxidized rope looks much cooler in the tank ;)

    FYI
Not sure if this has already been covered. I seen a few threads that mentioned getting ss 3/32 7x7 wire rope from SSDirect. These guys are based in Canada.
I ordered some and arrived yesterday. Couldn't wait to try this in either my AGA T2 or my Cobra. Done a few tests first:-
1.) Un-twisted the strands of rope to check for any nylon - No nylon or thread (YES!!)
2.) Blue torched the .... out of it - Passed. Didn't melt down and looked clean
3.) Tried it beside a fridge magnet (it's all I had to test with) - FAIL (stuck to the magnet like glue)!!!!!

Even though these guys state that it is 316 SS and absolutely no mention of galv - there most certainly is iron content. This stuff is not work a #$@%!!!

I waited for 2 weeks on my delivery. I was gutted. I will try again!!!

Got one SSC Wick working. And it's my first. Easy. Just received the DID Clone. Got the cable from a sails merchant. Got the ss mesh (that came with the DID) around the top of the cable and oxidized it. Got 1.7ohms. Thankx for the nice "invention". edit: the cable is 7x19, no nylon, as seen in the picture. Used as cable halyard.
I will try the carto insulator next... side.jpgabove.jpgsscable.jpg

Don't feel too bad mate, A magnet will stick to stainless steel though not usually on 316, try a magnet on your ss pots and pans knives etc there are quite a few different grades depends on the nickel content of the steel. If your still not sure galv can be scraped, sanded or burned off with high heat giving a white cloud of zinc oxide, just sand a small piece of your wire if nothing comes off and its shiny looking the same as the rest it will be stainless steel.
    Breath easy buddy: vapor:

I already bought it. But the people I got it from look like they are charging different prices and saying galvanized on their listings for other wire in the same OD. I would be willing to bet that it is the same that you have. You shouldn't be offering up your rope for free like that bro, I do however want to say thank you for the offer.
