Anyone else have to vape at high wattages? My Home Depot only had 3/16" ss non-galv rope so I pulled a bundle off the rope which is actually a good fit. I wrapped the top of the wick with 500 mesh and built a 1.4 ohm coil. I wasn't getting any TH or much flavor. But if I go to 4.4v on my provari it's a great vape. But that's almost 14w! This is on an aga-t+

I've been messing with the rope with my AGA-T2 for a few days now with 500mesh (single wrapped) and .05x4 ribbon kanthal on a provari - i'm getting 1.5ohms but it seems to move up and down, my voltage is at 4.0 but I still get dry hits every other hit; i think they're actually hot-leg burns, waiting on some xs from kp, hopefully this will solve my issue.

In the meantime, you can take some silica or cotton, unfurl it and wrap around the wire rope so that the cotton/silica strands run lengthwise. A little more difficult than the xs sleeving, but it works just as well.

So I finally got around to trying three different ideas I've been reading about. I've been settling for rebuilding Protanks for a few months because messing around with gennys was driving me insane. I had tried just about evreything one can with ss mesh and fc 2000 ceramics. I could never get that perfect, consistent coil. I tried kanthal and nichrome in just about all gauges. I tried ribbon. I tried annealing (sp?) the wire. I've put springs and washers all over my positive posts.

All of the above worked....for a bit. Poking and prodding coils, Petar K, argghhh! I have never in my life found such an elusive desired result, except maybe in looking for a faithful, honest politician. Anyway, no matter how well these items worked, there would always arise an issue, popped coil, poor wicking and most of all hot spots. To me no matter how delicious and perfect the vape, the disgusting, harsh taste of that eventual hot spot or leg was the worst. I could almost hear it laughing at me. "Gotcha again! Hahahaaa!". So I basically gave up and put all my gennys in a box for a few months. I'd settle for the Protank. It's largely effortless, won't leak and is dependable. Coils are super easy to wrap and rebuild. It's just...well...meh. Nothing special, merely serviceable.

So I read a lot. Always have. This thread, along with the micro coils thread got me thinking to give it another try. I ordered some XS-18 Nextel sleeving, some 7x7 316SS wire rope and waited patiently. My hopes were not really that high. After all, I have tried just about every new idea that has come down the pike. The worst of it has always been the posts of people that have long lasting success in spite of my failures. I digress.

I wrapped an 8 wrap, 28g micro coil around that sleeve sitting on the wire wick. Could not get any shorts to appear. No hot legs. I victoriously taunted them waiting for them to show their evil selves. Three days now of absolute chain vaping. Not a single bad pull off this thing. Coil ohms are firmly at 1.0. I'm using an AGA-T2 on a K100 mech. This thing makes me choke on vapor. Pics below. I really am posting this for two reasons; 1. To taunt and jeer at my enemies, the hot legs and shorts and all around nasty vape hits, and 2. For the undoubtedly many others who have had the same frustrating experiences as me and wonder why they too can't drink from the holy grail that is the genny setup we read about all the time - you can!!. This was almost too easy to set up - <5 minutes, no oxidizing, no prodding or poking, etc. And it wicked immediately. Perfect right away and has stayed so for three days. Good luck!!

This is my set but I use 7-19 rope with flat ribbon on XS- 18 sleeve. I will try a micro coil set up. Really is that simple and works great. Takes me all of 2 min to get this done. See people say that it works no better then a proper set up solid SS wick but I guess I use military background when it comes to things like this I use K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid) and it gets no simpler and better then this setup.

Please respond with a comparison once you've tried the micro-coil. This was the very first wrap I tried and would like to know which you find better. I have tons of ribbon that is sitting there doing nothing, but don't want to mess with this setup until I've heard comparisons. --And I couldn't agree more with keeping it simple.:toast:

Tried it today my wick is 3/32 I did 6 wraps and it came out to 1.3 ohms. Hard for me to wrap a micro coil on it because I have a spring mod on my AGA. First two tries epic failure because the coils would rip the sleeve. Stayed with it and got it to go without rip the sleeve. I think it would be easier if I didn't have the spring on my AGA. It works well and I would say it has more flavor then ribbon it is definitely a more intense vape. Although I have it on my Vamo at 4.5 volts with Black Fairy e-juice. AGA does not get hot like it normally does with either set up. With no tilting on the Vamo I can go to the 10 sec cut off without tilting and no dry hit which doesn't matter to me as it does to others because I slightly tilt every thing automatically any way. Any tips on how you get the microcoil not to rip through the Mesh would be helpful got it wrap and it works but not pretty by any means. Good thing about the sleeve is its so forgiving so my coil fires still with no shorts or hot spots.

So, without having to read all 100+ pages- does anyone want to tell me what else I need in addition to the SS Rope 316 7x7 3/32 for my DID? I'm reading ribbon wire? Is that replacing kanthal? If so, where can I find it? What gauge do you suggest? Lastly, do I need anything else? I have plenty of mesh at home and tons or NR, R wire in NiChrome, Kanthal and Nickel. Please, if someone would be so kind as to answer those questions for me, I'd be very grateful!
Thank you,
Troy

Ekowool wrapped ss rope.. Is awesome!

I'm driving down to Local Vape in Costa Mesa tomorrow to pick up my new Poldiac Cloud Wizard so maybe I will ask them. Maybe I will get lucky and they will just have some there.

You could always forgo the ribbon wire and just build a micro coil with the kanthal you have laying around. I have one on my RSST with a ss wire wick with a xc-116 diaper. It works great.

Check the thread out. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...271-micro-coils-increase-vapor-flavor-th.html

If you are bound and determined to get some ribbon wire, everyone I know goes to http://www.temcoindustrialpower.com/search.html?&category=Resistance_Wire&c=0003003

That's the answer I was looking for! That being said, I picked up 3" of rope and a yard of ribbon wire when I was at Local Vape picking up my Poldiac and wow! The flavor and vapor production is insane! I love how well it wicks but ribbon wire is a pain in the ... to work with. Hotspots like crazy at the positive post going to the wick. Finally got rid of them and got an amazing vape.

Glad I could help.

The micro coils rock, and you can do it at higher resistance without fear of blowing your face up.
