    My Home Depot rec shows:
    SKU 0000-754-670 SS WIRE PLAIN 1/16 .26c A FT
    SKU 0000-543-160 SAME 3/32 .33c A FT

Non galvanized.. I used to weld, no thanks to galvanized.
Have an AGI sitting here with SS wire, @ 3/32, hits good, flavor is nice. It's just 2.6 ohm, bit high for my liking. Used cotton insulator under coil. 4/5 wraps of 32g kenthal. Wow, hits good @ 5v on evic.. forgot about it this past week, breaking in a ceramic wick, nice to come back to it. I am taking this combo to work tomorrow!

Just completed installing 3/32 7x7 wire rope with 400 mesh diaper 32 ga kanthal in RSST. 1.4 ohm coil and is working wonderfully. Very happy with the wicking and it's almost to good with the plug in the deck lol.
Put some 1/16" 7x7 wire rope with 400 mesh diaper 34 ga kanthal 1.4 ohm in mini DID clone. This DID gives me fits building a coil in it and I really don't like the vape. I have some xc-116 coming in from big tex and will try that and see if I like it.
I can say that both builds were easy an quick. Not have the fuss of rolling a mesh wick for me anyway.

P.S. all wire from McMaster-Carr the 1/16" 7x7 had the nylon in it but the 3/32" 7x7 did not.

That's xc116 with SS rope core
    20130606_003119.jpg

No shorting or hot spots just watch out for "hot legs" they spoil the taste. the xc116 is non conductive so can be pulled very close to the pos. pin and I push the neg. wire right down to the deck to avoid "hot legs". Also by insulating the whole wick it wont ground out on any rig.

Ok, I'm confused. I just got my XC-116 from Omega, but when I cut it, it frayed and unwinds. I've tried torching it with a map gas torch for 10 minutes. Just long enough for it to stop smoking, then when I touched it, it went to dust. Did I torch it to long? How do I cut it so it doesn't fray?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Don't cut it too short this applies to Nextel and to SS rope. it needs to be an inch or more to keep the strands wound. That's why I cover the whole wick and not just the coil area. If you need a short piece of Nextel put a short length of shrink wrap tubing over the cut and that will keep it together. Just remove the SR tubing when you done. I do mean short or it will be hard to get off.

Monday I received my 3/32" 7x7 wire rope, .5 FRW and also some Ekowool both 2 and 3mm.

I waisted no time and made up a new wick using the 7x7 WR and used the 3mm Ekowool for a diaper under a 3/4 wrap of .5 FRW.
Flavor and vapor were so so. Nothing to write home about and by yesterday it was so gunked up I had to clean it after only 1 -1/2 days of use.

I decided to yank the Ekowool off and try it with a 500 mesh diaper. Again I made another 3/4 wrap with this new .5 FRW stuff. Couldn't have been any easier.
OMG! Wow!!! Me likey this set-up. :p
The flavor is the best I've ever had using SS mesh and or ceramic wicks in my little D14 and the vapor is possibly a little better as well. I'll be sticking with this set-up for a long long time.

So I've been using my 3/32 7x7 wire rope set up for about 2 or 3 weeks in my AGA-T2 running at 1.4 ohms on a Vamo. I have been pleased with the wicking and everything, but just for kicks I pulled the wick/coil setup out and slid in a once used 400 SS Mesh wick/coil setup that I had originally replaced with the wire rope.

I almost choked because the throat hit was so strong and I wasn't prepared for it. Personally, I love a hearty throat hit, I find it the most satisfying part about my vape. I didn't even realize that my wire rope wasn't providing that anymore (it seems like it did at the beginning or I wouldn't have made the switch). I have done dry burns on my wire rope every other day and the coil looks good as new.

After going back to the SS mesh I'm not sure that the wire rope is going to cut it for me. Is anybody else noticing a lack of throat hit from the rope? Maybe I did something wrong, even though it was definitely there when I made the build. Absolutely everything else about it is perfect, and I find I'm already getting annoyed with the constant tilting with SS mesh, so I'd really like to go back to the wire rope. But with the lack of throat hit I'm not sure that I can.

What's the difference between using Ekowool vs Nextel as the diaper? There is a source local to me that carries Ekowool and has free shipping vs $20 shipping from the U.S.

Would it work the same with Ekowool as with Nextel?

I think ekowool is safer than Nextel.. Idk i personally wouldn't use it

Ok, time to report back on the trial run of wire rope as wick on my Orion.

I got some 7x19 316 SS rope, cut to length and torched it white hot. It's dark, but clean as a whistle.

Wraped the top part 1x5 times around with #400 oxidized mesh.

Filled up with crash juice, coiled it 3/4 with 28ga A-1 Kanthal and test fired. No hotspots, perfect glow right away.

Once the juice was added, it takes a long time to get glowing coils because it wicks so fast.

Two weeks and it's still going like a champ. I dry burn the crud off between tanks and rinse with a few drops of water while it's red hot to flash off the carbon.

I gives consistently good vapor, great flavor and is easy to make and keep clean.

IMHO, SS wire rope is a winner. The very best bottom fed Genisis experience to date. I've switched all my mods to this method now and it works perfectly for all of them. I couldn't be happier with this so far. I am glad I gave this a try :)

I just ran into this today as a matter of fact. To get your TH back, take the wire out and re-torch it white hot. Set it back up again once nothing else will burn off the rope. I noticed that after a couple of weeks, the rope will clog slightly with carbon and will slowly wick less and less. The burnt stuff in the rope hold onto more condensation and kills your TH.

    Hope this helps :)

Glad I wasn't alone, I was starting to think it was all in my head haha. And thanks for the tip, it worked like a charm! No more tilting and dry hits with the SS mesh, I'm so happy to have the wire rope working again. Only downside is I had to go ahead and recoil it too, my coil snapped on the top leg when I was removing the wick. No big deal! Thanks again!

The 3/32 and 1/8 I got from home depot said Stainless Steel on the spool (Big giant roll on the shelf). They had separate spools for the galvanized stuff in the same measurements. I'm looking for 1/16 now.

On a side note, I've found that with SS rope, a little goes a long way. I've set up 2 iHys and when I use SS rope more than a half tank length, they overwick alot and mess with the coil in vapor, flavor, and TH. Both have SS Mesh diapers on top (400 I think), one have the parallel 32g wires (theres a picture of it in this thread I believe), and the other straight 28g.
