Wire Rope for Wick?

If it is impeding flow, it's impeding just enough cause this thing is working really, really well. The head won't be staying on. I was at work and happened to have this screw so decided to coil it up for a quick test. I had no access to tools. I have it lined up height wise where it should touch but I'll be getting rid of the head shortly.

BTW, I insulated the screw with just enough cotton to do the trick.

Is there such thing as a galvinized screw? If so this is worrysome.

I wonder if fiber optics (glass I assume) could be twisted into a configuration similar to the wire rope. I'm not sure how small FO comes (thinking lots of the smalls are what help with the CA). Probably no where near as small as the strands used on the wire rope.

Please explain the acronyms FO and CA?

I like the idea of the screw because they're readily available in stainless without labeling mystery, they aren't going to contain nylon/other threads that need to be burned off or removed (and I've never been confident enough to try that with a mystery material in there), and they'd potentially last "forever" (although the wire rope has that same potential).

If you make a "screw thread", someone post it here. I have some experimenting to do.

Are any of these screws galvanized?

Carbon rope chemistry seems complicated and that opens doors to toxic gasses when heated. This would have to be professionaly studied.

One big thig is missing, I don't see anything that specifies "SLEEVE" as a build format for putting a protective Silica diaper on top of a SS wire cable wick.

Glad I wasn't alone, I was starting to think it was all in my head haha. And thanks for the tip, it worked like a charm! No more tilting and dry hits with the SS mesh, I'm so happy to have the wire rope working again. Only downside is I had to go ahead and recoil it too, my coil snapped on the top leg when I was removing the wick. No big deal! Thanks again!

I found that at TSC [Tractor Supply Company] But it is 304 not 316. And I also noticed it is magnetic? Witch means it's not pure steel. p!$$ me off because they had two shelves of each, one specified galvanized and the other shelf was dedicated to just "Stainless Steel", that's the stuff I bought but the magnetic part spooks me. No Nylon in it is a plus, but real SS rope should not be magnetic. Held a magnet up to a piece and it jumped on the magnet like a 2 dollar Lady of the night on a 25 dollar Sailor.

The Koch brad stuff I got originally didnt say anything about being galvanized on the lable. I can post a pic if anybody wants. Its nice and shiny too. But somebody researched it and found mention on I believe the mfgr website saying it was galvanized so I just put it off to the side in my junk pile and got the stuff from mcmaster carr...

Tractor Supply Company had 2 shelves of each Koch brand name. One shelf was Stainless steel the other was galvanized steel. Of course I bought the Stainless but to my dismay when held near a magnet the Stainless steel wire jumped on it like a 2 dollar "Lady Of The Night" on a 25 dollar Sailor. Jeesh now we have to go shopping with magnets in our pockets.

I've used "gennies" on my Provari, Zmax and Evic.

The only folks that keep touting mechanicals for gennies are the ones building sub-ohm or low-ohm coils that would trip the protection circuits on most VV/VW devices.

If, like me, you are content with building coils in the 1.8 - 2.4 ohm range, there's no reason that you can't run it on a VV/VW device.

Also, the VV/VW [variable voltage/variable wattage] MODS are improving.
This one puts out over 8 volts up to 5 amps. 20 watt cut off so 8 volts x5 = 40 watts, that wont fly but it will handle 20 watts in reviews. So 5ax4v up to 2.5ax8v is really what they are saying.
The question is for how long, no heat sinking of output components = early death? this booger is expensive too.

I hope this wire rope improves outdoor hot and humid weather performance. Good God I walked outside it was 90 degrees, humid and my carto-tank system with a VV MOD failed miserably. Where's the steam? Where's the flavor, like suckin on the business end of a Boar, yuk!! Almost wished I had a cigarette. Turn up the volts and got a throat hit that was bitter still just a little pansy poof of what once resembled a thunder cloud. The hissing sissling factor shot through the roof also. As soon as I stepped in the office all was back to wonderful normal. Jeesh, do we have to re-invent this whole thing all over for an "Out Door" hot weather vapor?

On another forum, they've been experimenting with making their own cables out of strands of kanthal. I'm giving that a shot next. Also, I see AG and a few other reviewers have a "ghetto" cable tutorial aired. This might be the safest, and cheapest (ouch price for the cable cutters) way of doing this cable wick.

What does AG stand for and is there a link to this video? Doing a search for it in youtube turned up some nasty results.
