Wires to use for rebuilding a mod

My bolt finally gave up. I was using a kick at 10 watts and an Ody. It just wont fire anymore. Tried diff batts and cartos, but nada.

Anyway, i know nothing with electronics, but is it possible to use kanthal 32 awg to rebuild the connections?

Repairs inside the device should use non resistance wire. Ie. Plain ol copper.

Will a 30 gauge dead soft silver be fine?

I suppose it would work. However silver is costly and uninsulated. Would have to shrink wrap or insulate in some way to prevent shorts. I often use telephone wire. After removing the sheathing there are 5 or so strands of insulated copper wire inside in multiple colors.

I was thinking of putting glue all over it after i solder it lol. But ill try to lookfor an insulated wire first.

Use 18-24awg stranded copper. Smaller than 24awg won't handle the current, larger and 18awg will be tough to work in tight space.

buy some stranded copper wire, no more than you need it'll be cheap and worth it not trying to hack something else to work. You only need < 6" total for the Bolt if that.

I'd recommend going 22ga or 24ga for the Bolt. I did it with 20ga and it worked but it's tight in there and the wire was kinda stiff. 22 or even 24 should work fine for such short runs which will be well under 3" each, probably closer to half that.

The best place to get your wires is to pull them out of multi-strand cables. The insulation is always thinner so working with a thicker wire gauge is easier.

For modders the various colors also come in handy.

I only use 20AWG. I have an abundance from excess lead used on irrigation rain sensors. I'm an irrigation tech/ landscaper.

So ive tried rebuilding it twice. First wire came from an old mp3 player. As soon as i fired it, the wires burned right away. Second wire came from an old computer speaker, it still burned right after i fired it. I must be doing something wrong :/

Did you use your meter to check for continuity, or lack of it between the center post and shell of the connector after soldering your wires to the connector?

Unfortunately, i dont have a meter :/ nor do i know how to use one. When i said the wires burned, smoke was literally coming out of the switch. And as soon ad i open it, the insulation of the wires have all melted.

That sounds like a short, be very careful! Does the Bolt have a hot spring?

Yea as soon as i see the smoke, i quickly remove the batt. Hmmm not too sure. Looks like a normal spring to me lol

Wire went out in the mail today. Seems like there are other issues causing your malfunction tho. As was alluded to, you may have a short in the connector. There's only a small rubber insulator that holds the positive post in. It's easy to damage it with a connector that's too long or screwed in too far.

As a general rule, there's a problem if wires melt in anything electronic. Good luck!

Dougie, i got the wires. Thanks again. This time, i didnt get a short. However, my switch went bad. One of the prongs got dettached from resoldering too much. I ordered a new switch though from madvapes. This time, i know itll get fixed when the switch areives.
