Cheap way to fix the problem
Step 1) Take electric tape cut a few thin strips (0.25 inch wide) and tape that to the bottom of the spring that goes towards negative end of battery.
Step 2) Then pull out a long strip of electric tape and cut that (1 - 3 inches should do it) and cut that to 0.25 inches wide as well.
Step 3) Tape the long strip to the side and top of the pieces of tape on the spring. Go around the tope and side until its done (make sure its even all the way around).
Step 4) Make sure the spring fits inside the tube before putting everything back together. Also make sure switch can go through the spring to make contact to the negative end of the battery.

This will help prevent the spring from touching the negative end of the battery and prevent the spring from touching the inner walls of the tubes. I hope this helps. :)
