Realize the OP is trolling, but this 'sparked' 
an old memory from before the internet. Edison tried carbonized bamboo filaments before eventually settling on tungsten. Quick trip to Google and I see it was far more complex than I remembered. History of the Incandescent Light Scroll down to where Joseph Swan and Thomas Edison were independently using various carbonized filaments. Paper, cardboard, sewing thread then the bamboo I remember. Then tantalum before tungsten... Fascinating read!
Now the trick will be to get the carbonized wood inside a coil shaped container with a hard vacuum. They were aiming for efficiency, ie more light than heat. Since vaping needs the opposite it might make this a simpler task. Five years and a few million bucks should do it.

Ya know how when a Thread gets too Political, a Mod will come along and say if people Don't Cool It, that He/She will move the Thread to the OUTSIDE? Maybe the ECF should have a section Dedicated to Trolling Threads?
Then People can Go Ballistic and Troll away until to their Fingers Bleed.
And I have the Perfect Name for this Trolling Section. I'd call it the "Under the Bridge" section.

I'm currently running dual staggered stapled fused claptons with walnut cores and a river birch outer wrap. It WOOD be decent but it LEAVES alot to be desired. I've yet to get to the ROOT of the problem. It's driving me NUTS and the noise makes my dog BARK.

I will admit I never really thought about making my coils using a maul instead of a mandrel.
back when vaping was evolving to what it is today,
just like when someone suggested using cotton for wicking material,
no way they said , it will burn up and you will get cotton mouth , lol
or
it will start on fire , too easy to burn they said .
a good wick has to be fire proof they said.
funny how , if i keep my cotton wick wet with juice it dont give me Cotton mouth.

Yesss! And you can heat them up with a lighter! 
This guy is pretty amazing, but if Ephriam Cooper was trolling he was more effective. I was addicted to his threads. He got everybody involved and arguing.

I thought it was fire in the hold. An old nautical term for bad news on a wooden ship. Just like it would be bad news on a wooden coil.
I hear stabilized wood is really the way to go. It's expensive, and a bit like burning hundred dollar bills, but this is vaping, and no price is too great for the perfect experience
