I have made my first two batches of DIY e-juice. My first batch I made with NicVapes e-base with a butterscotch-vanilla flavor mix. It turned out better than I thought possible.

My second attempt I ordered a bottle of VG, a bottle of PG, a bottle of concentrated nicotine and some red apple flavor. I made the juice with only red apple and no other flavors added. Once again I was surprised at how good it turned out. It tastes like I just took a bite out of a fresh apple. I liked the way it tastes so much I mixed up 180ml of it.

It is so easy and I am saving a ton of money. If I compare the cost between my DIY and the cheapest premade juice I have bought I am saving 66%. Compared to the premium premade juice that I have bought, I am saving about 82%.

I am hooked.

Congratulations! You're well on your way to being totally independent as far as always being able to vape juice you like, AND saving a bunch of money in the longrun! I agree with Jdurand above, for the most part. Only difference is...I'd suggest "now stock up on a lot of Nic base..." :D

Seriously, before (1) there are restrictions placed on buying it, (2) prices for it go sky-high, (3) more states start highly taxing vaping stuff, (4) it's not readily available any more...figure out how much you'd need to last as long as you plan to vape in the future. Then do some reasearch on the best prices for the most commonly recommended Nic brands, and buy what you need to "stash" for the long haul. Get some glass bottles with polycone caps to break down the liters into smaller quantities, and then freeze it all! Then, it won't matter what the FDA, the states, etc. do as far as restrictions, taxes, higher prices, etc.

You don't need to worry about stashing PG, VG, and flavorings for your DIY though. Those will be around since they're used in other products, as well as eliquid. Most likely, only the tobacco flavorings may be disappearing in the near future, but not even all of them. I know of one company that has said they'll always sell RY4Double, since it's used in a very popular candy that many people make.

Congrats, 6SteelStrings! You've begun to future proof your vaping outlook!

The long term concern is whether and how long 100mg nic base will be available to casual diy'ers. Lots of us have calculated how much nic we'll need for an extended time and are freezing it for the future. So many restrictions, costs, and qualifications have been placed on juice vendors that we are wondering how many will find it profitable to remain in the ejuice business.

DIY is the future for most of us.

I may not have to worry about the nic for long. I am down to 3% from a high of 18% when I started. I will be able to get to 0% by year end easy.

Point of information for those that may be new to mixing.

18% nicotine is 180mg/ml and even someone like me who started at 48mg/ml would balk at vaping that.

Best to assume the poster meant 18mg/ml instead of %.

We now return you to your regular thread where we are happy a new mixer has found their feet.

I transitioned down from 24ml nic to 3mg over several months about 3 years ago. I tried 0mg nic for a short while and I missed that little sense of nic bite that's present even in 3mg/ml juice, so I stuck at 3mg.

What I found is that I either detect nic or I don't. It's not so much the nic level for me, but the fact that there's nic in the juice that makes the difference. I'm as happy at 3mg as I was at 24mg. I found 0mg nic juice to be unsatisfying.

Nic supposedly helps with mental cognizance. At my age I need that! ;)

Congratulations! I just started doing it myself too about a week ago. I never thought it was worth the trouble, but I moved to my first sub-ohm tank last month (Aspire Cleito - love the flavor off of this thing) and my juice bills just went through the roof. Had to do something.

Stocked up on some stuff, found a great recipe site/database. I haven't made a bad bottle yet and I'm pretty sure I have a perfect copy of one of my favorite premium juices that I can make now whenever I want.

It's super easy and super cheap and lots of fun (I hate the waiting for steeping though!) - just have to be careful handling the nicotine and pay close attention with all of the measurements.

I'm hooked too.

:) Nice feeling isn't it. I buy PG, VG and 100mg liquid nic in bulk and only when on sale, this allows for -maximum- cost savings without sacrificing quality. For the PG, VG and liquid nic required to make a liter of 9mg juice, I spend around $7. Since I chose to stockpile critical supplies, that cost is now "locked in" for the duration. DIY allows a person to fine tune juice to their individual taste but it can also liberate/exclude them from steep profit markups and corrupt government extortion schemes, a win-win in my books.

I can tell a distinct difference in juice consumption rate by dropping my 10 watt vape to 8 watts. I do that sometimes when I'm out and want to be stealthy in a store or restaurant. I can only imagine how much juice a sub ohm tank at high wattage will eat.

When I wind an SS316 coil I usually do 10 wraps/2.5mm to make the coil longer for more wick contact and keep the resistance as high as possible. That comes out to about .93 ohms. Technically, it's a sub ohm coil, but not nearly as extreme as most.

When I first started vaping it was a 24 mg Tribeca with Nauti coils and I went through ~3 ml a day at ~8 to 10W. I managed to accidentally purchase some 12 mg juice and found it was just as satisfying and I vaped ~4 ml a day (so some compensatory increase). Now I've moved into subohm territory (not into clouds, I really prefer flavor, but I like the looser draw, so call me a restricted DL user?) and I use my own DIY 6 mg juices and use about 5 to 7 ml a day in TC 450F 30W. That's over a ~10 month period (my 1 year anniversary will be right around Thanksgiving).

There are setups I have that can suck through juice in no time but I can't use them as an ADV tank. While my total volume of juice is higher than when I started, I'm still taking in less nic. If I do need to stealthy like say traveling, I will switch back to a higher nic/high PG juice and get by with little puffs and tiny clouds.

    Welcome to DIY Land!

It costs me 7 to 10 cents. A day. 25 to maybe 50 bucks. A year.

I started out on EGO One heads which were very economical and stayed on those for 6 months. I could rewick those coils easily so I didn't spend a lot of money at all. The flavor and thick, rich vapor out of the Cleito 0.4 Ohm was a real eye opener though. I tried to switch to the Nautilus X which looked like a 1.4 Ohm version of the Cleito but the flavor was not that great and then tried to go back to my EGO Ones and couldn't do it. I decided to stick to the 0.4 Ohm for ADV. Will probably be buying a second tank so I can switch flavors in mid tank.

I have something called an Emili for stealthing / travelling light. Fun little gadget. Looks just like a cell phone!

Anyways, getting off topic a bit. I just ordered my second batch of flavorings to try some new recipes.

    My current DIY playlist is:

Strawberry Fog - awesome recipe. Tastes like a strawberry cig.
Coconut Cocayne - not too many coconut recipes out there. This one makes me feel like I'm on a beach in the Caribbean .
Monkey Snack - A nice rendition of the Ripe Vapes juice. Maybe a little heavier on the peanut butter than the original
Banana Cream - my simplest recipe. Close to a one flavor juice. Nice with coffee.

    My next attempts:

    Apple Peach Wine
Black Honey Tobacco and Bavarian Cream
    Creamy Peaches and Pear.

    :)
