Remember, this is something we're all planning to do on the same day.
The idea is to maximize the impact of a steam of emails coming in all throughout the day.

That day is September 19th, which is World vaping Day.
:)

This is all designed to be peaceful. This is a public forum and taken in concideration they may know in advance. Personally, I think they won't try to block it. To my knowledge nothing like this has been done before. I would imagine they would be just as curious as we are as to how many actually do come through.

I think it might be nice to send out a press release to news organizations apx 24-48 hours ahead of time. Be sure to include contacts for further information. There are also several newspapers including McClatchy.

Personally, I'd like to see individual stories sent to some of the self-proclaimed consumer health groups such as ACA, ALA, etc.

Another focus might be dropping by, in person, state and national representatives offices to say "hi" and talk about the issue w a letter. Turn ourselves into "lobbyists". Ask if anyone in the office smokes and see if they'd like to try one (a give-away program). I got the idea from cigar advocates who gave away cigars to local and national reps.

What I'm not sure of is if this is a way to "celebrate"? I wish there were more time because this could have been a way to spread the good news nationally with a massive ecig give-a-way program to any smoker that wants to try an ecig.

I think there is enough membership and vendor support to fuel such a program and I'm not sure a give-a-way program would be a possibility later on since ANTZ might consider it a promo, coupon, etc that they don't allow with reg cigarettes. I think that might attract positive attention in the media also. I know Panda ran a give-away program for a limited time that got enormous response. The point of this is to get the message out that smokers DO want to quit smoking cigarettes and the fact they haven't been able to may not be as simple as ANTZ would like everyone to believe, and of course, pointing to something that is successful.

Just random thoughts. It's kind of late for an event 8 days away.

Are you a member of CASAA? They would love to get ideas from you!! :)
Hopefully next year with enough time, those ideas could be implemented!
If there's any way you could get email addresses for those medical associations, that would be great! I can add them to the list.

I have a list of 2526 email addresses. That should keep everyone under any limits that any email accounts have. When should these be posted here? The day before?

I'm not able to edit the Original Post any longer.

I have a set ready with comma spacing and am working on the list with semi-colon spacing.

The moderators can edit your post, and also change the title.
I've done that with a number of threads in the past.

Yes, I'm a member of CASAA. A lot of this is basic advocacy - and I mean, very basic since I'm not a member of any political groups.

The headlines that twist anything pro-ANTZ are taken from headlines of a press release. Every event / announcement should have a press release. This is 21st century journalism.

Press releases are sent out w/ email blasts. They are zip files for faxes, contacts receiving. I assume someone in CASAA already has them. I'd hate to see you go to so much work to duplicate the same thing. There should also be a set for various media outlets and thay are fairly standardized. Also another file for state and national leaders/reps/etc. Pretty basic and I'm sure some are already out there.

Then maybe customize a file specifically for CASAA that might include inside contacts for FDA and various health groups mentioned earlier. That one would need to find the most effectice address / contacts and might need to get insider information.

I've seen advocacy groups release a file of email address' (zip file) for members to contact. Just copy and paste into the address bar.

CASAA is not stupid and they are not green. They have done an impressive job, sure there's never enough monies or bodies, but I know they know the basics. These files probably already exist and they always need updating.

Having insider contact info is priceless (which I don't have). Some people will gather contact info from medical journals and associations, some take it off health plan network information, sometimes you can just call and ask for it. Often it changes after each email blast.

I think one of the biggest benefits might be teaching individuals how to become their own lobbyist.

It might be fun to dress up as a alter ego BP or BT lobbyist and then go on a visit to local elected leaders (let them know you know). Hmmm... How about a nat'l Halloween Vape Bash in your rep's office this year? That'll get some attention.

You can never count on "next year".

There are WAY too many people sitting around doing nothing.
Before they can be taught, how do we motivate them to even try to do something?

Sorry, this is a positive thread, and it should remain that way.
But damn, we have about 15 confirmed people that plan to participate?

I'd like to think there are 200 more that are ready, but just haven't posted yet.

I'd like to think that too. This thread has gotten a lot of traffic. Hopefully it will translate into action when the time comes. *crossing fingers*

I've been pleasantly surprised in the past when Call To Actions come out.

I often see people posting after the fact, when we have defeated the legislation.
And sometimes these people have been on ECF for many years, but have less than 100 posts.

When people like that post about their involvement, well...
Sometimes it's the only thing that keeps me going.
:)

I'm actually thinking about asking for a banner at the top of ECF for that day. Odds of me getting it? :)

Because it's boring. Life should never be boring. People were motivated when they thought they couldn't buy online.

How about a CASSAA fun run, fund-raiser at every vapebash/expo? That would be a good way to experience (and advertise) the benefits of ecigs. And since many smokers are not into the habit of excercise, maybe a couch-run as well (couches on wheels)?

One thing a grass roots orgainization can do very well that corporate astro-turfs can't do is HUMOR. I think the best PSA for vaping that I've seen to date was the Pbsurado video that ECF kept deleting. I think every council member should see that because so much of this fight is ridiculous and counter intuitive.

There is a time and place for proffessionalism and seriousness. I'm not convinced that ANTZ care about facts. Even the media interviewers will ask a question, and then interupt with their own twisted answer.

Ex-smokers remind me of sitting in the back of the bus (or airplane) with other smokers (when they still could smoke) because they were a little rebellous and always had the most fun. I still have a hard time because I'd rather hang out with the smokers than the non-smokers who tend to be dull. Let the back of the bus reign and I bet even those who never smoked will want to join in (since we don't smell anymore). Do PSA's of a 60 year old fonz. The 50 year old punk rocker. The disco grandma. Ecigs are for kids? It's laughable.

I've called some people out on this before; the political crazy-talk is very off putting. It has prevented me from taking a more active role, even in discussion threads. I stay away from those sections and I'm outspoken. I can see where anyone who isn't, wouln't be involved here at all.
