Tightness, coughing, and excessive mucus sounds a great deal more like too much VG, than too much PG. PG causes irritation, burning, that sort of thing, if one is sensitive to it. And the OP has already stated that she has the problem with either 80% VG or 50% VG -- both are a lot of VG.

Andria
Not in my case. I've never gotten that tightness in my chest with higher VG. People react different I suppose.

So where can I get higher pg in the uk? Anyone know? Someone earlier on posted about sweet-vapes. I had a look but it is a US site unfortunately

Hi Becki,

Off the top of my head, I recall that juices from E-liquid UK shop supplying e-liquid, e-juice and e-liquid concentrates from the UK are 80/20 - that means they are 80%PG. They do a juice called Red Astaire that is like a cherry menthol eucalyptus (cherry tunes) sort of thing that most people quite like, and loads more. Hope it helps

I'm using a box mod, I thought you were supposed to use lower nicotine levels in these. That's what they told me when I bought it anyway. Most brands of juice suitable for this type of e cig only go up to 6mg
its suggested to lower your nic when you increases the watts to over 40.... higher watts = more vape = more nic intake... thus a lower nic juice compensates... but if you are still feeling urges to need more, raise the nic a bit... since you are at a 50/50, it could be either the VG or PG that is causing the issue orrr the flavors... strawberry will close down my sinuses in a heartbeat..

Also Becki,

I read back through the thread, and see that you have an iSub tank. This tank has fully adjustable airflow, via a ring near the bottom of the tank that you can turn to close off the airflow. I mention this because it sounds like you directly lung inhale. If you are sensitive to either the PG or VG, I would recommend that you make the draw really tight, so that you can change the way you inhale. Because the particle size of the aerosol of the vapour you inhale, most of the absorption of nicotine takes place in the mouth, soft pallete, and throat. The size of the particles is too large to be effectively absorbed in the lungs, so I would recommend that you pull the vapour into your mouth first, take the vapour back into the back of your throat, not necessarily the lungs and then exhale. Also if you are having post-nasal drip from sinus problems, this would explain why your lungs are full of mucus, and I would recommend you use a sinus irrigation system - widely available from Boots the Chemist.

Can you recommend a brand?

You cannot get to bottom of a problem w/out properly isolating the different variables involved.

My suggestion to you is to up your nicotine to 12mg as was suggested, then order UNFLAVORED ejuice in straight PG and UNFLAVORED ejuice in straight VG. (or as high as you can get).
You will know whether PG or VG is the culprit. If there are no problems, then it may be certain flavorings in the ejuice you are vaping.

I can't vape over 20% PG and I can't vape anything with cinnamon or I get ill.

YOu have to find out what it is for you. Good luck.

If your symptoms are really as dramatic as you wrote, i.e., you legitimately go into respiratory distress when you vape, then none of the standard "see what works for you" stuff applies. You're either very allergic to one of the three main components of e-liquid (VG, PG, nic) or you've got a genuine diagnosis of something or other waiting to happen with your lungs. If you've never vaped anything but the same brand, then there's a chance it's the flavor compounds involved, but otherwise yeah. Respiratory distress is not something to mess around with. If that is indeed the case you need to stop vaping immediately, see the doctor ASAP, and listen to them if they tell you to stop inhaling anything but air.

*edit* More specifically, if you truly struggle to breathe after vaping, that's a sign that your lungs are initiating a dramatic inflammation response. Whether that's allergies or tied to some other condition, you don't F around with that. You have no way of knowing whether the reaction will stay at a consistent level or suddenly turn into full on asphyxiation and death. The body's inflammation response is unpredictable, and when the airways are involved it is perfectly and completely capable of killing you even if it's been years of "manageable" attacks before a sudden game-ender.

Try totally wicked or bargain vapours.

Apart from seein a doc pretty pronto - and as UK is so far the only country where health authorities actually RECOMMEND vapes - a that should be cool about vaping, do a self-check.

Get UKP grade or quivalent PG and VG . Mix very small quantities ( like 1 or 2 ml ) of the two together in various ratios and vape to find out if you're possibly sensitive or even allergic to one of the main ingredients...
It's rare, but it's known.

OH GEEZE GUYS. This isn't that difficult...

FIRST STEP...
get rid of the sub ohm tank and return your nic back to your normal strength.

Try a Nautilus tank or a carto tank. Something with limited air flow and lower power.

Don't worry about your box mod. It's not the source of either of your issues. It's simply a power source.

DO SEE A DOCTOR if your symptoms continue.

If after you go back to vaping the way you're comfortable and works for you, irritation persists, ALWAYS suspect flavor is a culprit before pg or vg. Try vaping flavorless and adjusting pg/VG blends until you nail down if and or what issues you may have in that arena.

Ask the tootle puffers what toppers work under 12 watts.

Ask where to get flavorless nic juice in a customizable blend.

Go from there.

Yep, lots of Different, might be right - might be wrong, answers.

I can guarantee, what works for me............May or may not work for you. :D
Exactly.

She needs to get back to what works for her and adjust from there.

The sub ohm tank obviously isn't helping.

Becki try mist eliquid decent juice at a reasonable price until I started making my own that's where I bought liquid, you could always look into making your own juice it's really not that hard and after the initial setup expense becomes very cheap plus you'll be future proofing yourself against any legislation. Another plus with making your own is you can dial in the ratios to exactly what works for you plenty of help and advice available here. You really do need to visit your GP though and get a clean bill of health just for piece of mind and to help narrow it down.

E-cigs are awesome, but they are not a magic wand.

When I first started vaping I was coughing and releasing all types of nasties. These bodily fluids didn't come from my e-cig they were part of the healing process and my body getting rid of all the garbage smoking had left behind inside me. You won't just pick up an e-cig one day and be magically cured, it's a process. Part of that process is the detoxification where your body has to clean out all that tar and other garbage left behind.

My advice to you don't give up and you'll see just how much better it gets. After a while you'll be able to get up run a mile come back and cook breakfast for your family without breaking a sweat.

Give it a chance.
