Thanks, DC2! Glad to see you agree. I believe the dry burn should be done when an atty still seems to be clogged after doing the hot-water cleaning process (I like to bring the water to a boil and let the atty soak in really hot water until the water cools down). I clean my atomizers every night (only takes a minute or so to bring the water to a boil and pour the water into the little cup -- and a few seconds to blow out the excess water and set them on my desk to dry overnight). I have more atomizers, so I don't need to use the newly-cleaned atties right away. And at this time of year (tax season), I won't have time to do dry burns very often....so I recently bought 8 more atomizers, so I'll have more to rotate. I use two each day, rinse them out each night, and use the next two in the rotation the next day.

I also wash my dishes every day and don't reuse dirty glasses, plates, silverware, pans, etc. until they've been washed. I believe using atties to vape is similar to using dishes and glasses to eat and drink. There's no way I wanna inhale any old e-liquid that's been inside the atty for more than a day or two -- or anything else that could be growing inside the atty.

Thanks for posting your link. I know I read that thread about four months ago, so I'm sure some of my ideas have come from your thoughts in that thread and other threads.

Alice Atty's been with me since my first day almost 5 months ago. While not the perfectionist that her sister Annie Atty has always been, she's been a real workhorse when I needed her!:) Every once in a while she's gotten to enjoy an 91% ispropol alcohol bath with a nice relaxing few days off while sister Annie Atty got her workout for a few days. There's been a few times when the alcohol bath wasn't available that's she'd gotten to enjoy a hot water bath instead. She was always like new after her bath and her few days rest. She's never been exposed to a dry burn, that is until tonight. Unfortunately I'd noticed lately that her age was beginning to show and while she still did her job, just not up to her old standards lately. So this evening she got the "works". First an alcohol bath and then a hot water bath. Poor thing was terribly confused to get two baths in one evening. We said our goodbyes to each other just in case the dry burn was too much for her. She spent some time being dry burned on my 3.7 VT mod but she just couldn't manage to bring out that orange glow no matter how hard she tried. Giving her another chance to show her colors, I moved her to the 5 VT. She spit and she spuddered and blew smoke at me(honest real black smoke!) and finally gave her all and gave out the orange glow ! :toast: Yep, she's back to work as usual now all fresh and ready to be the workhorse I've always known her to be.

One of the reasons for the increase in draw difficulty that I haven't seen touched on is the plastic ring under the atty cup. There is a hole in the center, and sometimes it becomes a bit melty from use and heat and it can close up or mutate larger which modifies airflow. It might be possible to open up that center hole again with either a heated needle or other tool, but to be honest I've not had the occasion to experiment with the possibility. Dried up gunk on the coils is also a problem but from what I've seen in my autopsies of dead/nearly dead attys it tends to be the melted plastic piece.
