I could tell I was gaining some but didn't step on the scale until yesterday and almost had a fit! I do think I'm dealing with some retention issues but even counting that it's a good bit of weight. I'm not constantly eating like I did when trying to quit with the patch I've never been a snacker but it's defiantly time for a diet. I feel like the goodyear blimp.

be sure to drink lots of water.you have to learn to tell the difference between thirst and hunger. try drinking a glass of water right before you eat as well. it should be easier to take a walk each day what with the breathing getting better as well. use the new found energy! i know you can do it. best of luck and hang in there with the vaping...<*}}}>{

I drink water by a quart jar I fill it 4-5 times a day :) Unfortunately I haven't found the new energy yet but it could be because I'm gaining weight and it's slowing me down. I think mine is not so much how much I'm eating but more what I'm eating.. time for better choices! No plans to go back to smoking last time I quit and gained I started back only to become a fatter smoker :)

More water is an excellent idea, but you might also consider slightly increasing the nicotine. I know that most people gain a good bit of weight after quitting smoking, and it's not just because of eating more, it's also a metabolic change; nicotine is a stimulant, which means it will increase your metabolic rate and also slightly depress hunger.

I've actually lost weight, since now I can sit around and vape, instead of sitting around shoving snacks in my piehole. I was a bit worried that I couldn't maintain the weight loss I enjoyed at first, everything tastes so good to me now, but I just went and weighed myself, and I'm a few lbs less than the last time I checked, about a month ago. Hope it continues; 135 is about my ideal weight, and I'm just a few lbs over that now. :thumb:

However there is still a third of a red-velvet birthday cake in the fridge... ;) I may be saying hello to 140 again before that's gone. :D

Seems like every vaper is different when it comes to this.. Some lose, some gain, some stay the same...

I was one of the ones who gained.. Most of it happened during the first 2-3 months..

That was a while back & I've stupidly yet to take it off.. That's next on the list, though...

Anyway, look at it this way: Wouldn't you rather be a little heavier than still being a smoker?

I like to keep a bag of baby carrots in the fridge always, they are full of fiber and taste good. If you are not very hungry but feel like snacking try to grab those first. Losing weight is not comfortable at first, you will probably be hungry. But as you get used to eating less you will eventually want less. So press through, eat carrots or other vegetables to help fill you up and vape when you want to mindlessly eat, and hopefully that will help. Walking a lot helps too if you aren't into harder exercise. I lost about 20 lbs when I quit smoking and started vaping, probably because I'm guilty of vaping constantly. And I traded dessert for dessert Vapes. Good luck!

I've never understood this. Is there really people out there that have a similar feeling when they are hungry or thirsty? The feeling of thirst to me isn't even slightly close to the feeling of hunger.

This is a serious questions because I might have to start suggesting this to people that are gaining weight; I just never took this statement seriously before because it just doesn't seem realistic to me...

I think there is a difference between being "thirsty" as in "I just got done with a workout and want water" or "It's hot outside and I'm sweaty and want water" or even "I haven't had water in a few hours" versus someone who is not drinking enough water in general and the body is under-hydrated (urine isn't supposed to be too yellow -- a properly hydrated body produces urine that is very light in color).

Due to Vaping my water intake has multiplied itself probably eight or nine times. As opposed to one glass of pure water, one cup of coffee, maybe a miscellaneous beverage and then a glass of wine at night, now I am drinking solely water all day long and as a result my "output" is very clear, albeit frequent.

I also get headaches if I am not hydrated properly.

Drinking a goodly amount of water has certainly staved off hunger for me. In fact, there have been days I have had to force myself to eat, and I have no eating disorders and never have. I am only Vaping at 6mg so nicotine being a factor in curbing my appetite is, IMO, a non-issue.

I also gained weight (12 LB), but when I quit cigs other times I gained 20, so am still ahead of the game. Also, I started vaping right after the holidays and ate my way through them, so not sure I can blame it all on vaping vs smoking. At least now that the weather is halfway decent I can walk and that helps. Fatter or not, I feel better....if only my clothes fit better, LOL!

I'm closer to a 20 lb gain  like I said I'm retaining fluid and a good bit. I can see it on my face, feet, ankles and calves. As far as more water, 5 quarts a day seems like more than enough. That's not counting unsweetened tea! How much more would a person be expected to drink or run to the bathroom? Problem is I am a diabetic and have fibro. Weight gain means more blood sugar issues and pain problems, fluid retention is a nightmare for fibro pain. I don't work out, but I do run our family farm on my own and I guess because of the adjustment and weight gain I barely am able to get that done I honestly don't remember a time in my life when I've been so exhausted all the time. All this being said I have no plans to start back smoking.

i read this a few years ago when i wanted to shed a few pounds. the article i read suggested drinking a glass of water if you felt hungry and wait 20-30 minutes. if you were really hungry then eat a low cal snack if you were between mealtimes. worked for me. that and a lot of cardio.

fast forward to last year...i had gained weight and finally started vaping. remembered to drink lots of water since it was brought to my attention here...as of today i am down 40 lbs since quitting. at my lowest i was almost 50 lbs down.i have leveled off but i believe i can easily shed the last 20 to reach my goal... you can do anything if you really want it bad enough....

Sorry to hear grannykimmy. Hang in there & I hope your energy level increases. What is your nicotine level?
Retaining water like that in those areas of the body - is that a sodium thing? Self check your salt intake??

No idea what the problem is. It's probably a combination of things, hot weather, wrong foods.. I'm starting today with watching what I eat more salt, sugar, carb intake and giving that a few days to see if it helps with the retention. Trying distilled water today, I read it could help with retention, don't know if it's true but figure it can't hurt :)I don't think it has anything to do with vaping but if I can't get the fluid off in a few days of careful eating I'll start looking at the e-juice. I read yesterday that PG can cause retention I use a 60/40 blend so if diet get the fluid gone I'll try more VG.

I agree with you. I am not hungry now. I started vaping to try to curtail the snacking while watching television or reading. I have never smoked regular cigarettes, but I really enjoy the different flavors while vaping. I haven't weighed myself yet, but I feel so much better when I'm not stuffing myself with junk food. When I do eat, I try to eat well, and I'm not craving sweets or other snacks now like before.

Also keep in mind that cigarette smoke damages the thyroid while nicotine and certain tobacco alkaloids create an artificially high metabolism. It can take time for the thyroid to learn to keep up on it's own. However, if the problem isn't solved by diet and exercise in a couple of months, (and even if you aren't feeling more energy, try to at least walk a few time per week) visit your doctor and have a full thyroid panel run to include Free T3 and Free T4. (and you may have to insist on the Frees, most doctors won't run them on their own. In fact, most doctors will only run a TSH which is actually a pituitary hormone) A month or so after I quit smoking cold turkey (the quit attempt before I found e-cigs) I started gaining weight, developed a puffy face as well as swollen hands, ankles and feet, and my blood pressure dropped below normal for me, which was already low for most people. Turned out I was finally showing signs of hidden Hashimoto's (Side note; I'm one of those few lucky people that actually have both Hashi's and Graves) and it's not an uncommon occurrence, especially in people, women primarily, who have recently quit smoking.

I'm so sorry your having a difficult time. I hope things can work them self out and you can feel better, mainly about yourself. I know how that feels not to be happy with yourself and it's a miserable place to be in. Hopefully you can get it figured out. I'm also diabetic insulin dependant type 2 and I know how difficult dieting or even eating can be . It's a balance and it sure feels awful when the blood sugar is upset which makes it even harder to diet because you can't go low. I hope you get a healthy balance worked out where you feel better about yourself. Have you considered talking to the doctor about a gentle water pill? That might help with the extra fluid? Hope this helps and best wishes.

Yeah, I had started a post-holidays diet in January because I always eat like a pig from Halloween to Xmas, candy cookies cakes pastries and all the good REAL food... started vaping at the very end of Jan, when I had already started losing just a little, and when I was able to sit and vape instead of sit and stuff, the weightloss went even faster. Since rediscovering how good perfectly ordinary food tastes, I had been concerned that I would stop losing or even start gaining again, but I think the momentum carried me through; now at 138, really would like to get to just below 135, so that when the holidays hit this year, I don't balloon up so badly; I got to 150 just after xmas and that freaked me right out, 15-20 lbs more than I want to weigh is just WAY too much. I can't stand myself when there's so much of ME I can't even put my socks on comfortably. :D

When I was young I was always one of those girls that looks like they have anorexia, even though I ate like a pig, and I always hated being so skinny (no boobs, no ....!), but now I really miss not having to watch every bite I put in my mouth. Such is middle age. :?:
