No idea what the problem is. It's probably a combination of things, hot weather, wrong foods.. I'm starting today with watching what I eat more salt, sugar, carb intake and giving that a few days to see if it helps with the retention. Trying distilled water today, I read it could help with retention, don't know if it's true but figure it can't hurt :)I don't think it has anything to do with vaping but if I can't get the fluid off in a few days of careful eating I'll start looking at the e-juice. I read yesterday that PG can cause retention I use a 60/40 blend so if diet get the fluid gone I'll try more VG.

I read that too, about the PG; since getting the Kayfun I've been able to decrease from 85/15 PG/VG to 67/33 PG/VG; might need to decrease the PG more, but it'll have to wait till I can handle that much VG without feeling like a cat with a hairball. My poor ankles have turned into cankles, and it hurts in the back of my calves, so I've been wrapping them with ace bandages and taking timeouts to go elevate my feet. It helps, but still got the swollen ankles, especially late at night. But like you said... no plans whatever to go back to smoking. My ankles will just have to get over themselves. :D

Also keep in mind that cigarette smoke damages the thyroid while nicotine and certain tobacco alkaloids create an artificially high metabolism. It can take time for the thyroid to learn to keep up on it's own. However, if the problem isn't solved by diet and exercise in a couple of months, (and even if you aren't feeling more energy, try to at least walk a few time per week) visit your doctor and have a full thyroid panel run to include Free T3 and Free T4. (and you may have to insist on the Frees, most doctors won't run them on their own. In fact, most doctors will only run a TSH which is actually a pituitary hormone) A month or so after I quit smoking cold turkey (the quit attempt before I found e-cigs) I started gaining weight, developed a puffy face as well as swollen hands, ankles and feet, and my blood pressure dropped below normal for me, which was already low for most people. Turned out I was finally showing signs of hidden Hashimoto's (Side note; I'm one of those few lucky people that actually have both Hashi's and Graves) and it's not an uncommon occurrence, especially in people, women primarily, who have recently quit smoking.

Good to know I have a goiter (sp?) and have suspected thyroid problems for years but the tests always come back normal.

Another really good reason to have your numbers monitored. I would suggest the tests above along with antibodies; anti-TPO and TgAb. You would also do well to have an ultrasound of your thyroid if you haven't within the last year. As I mentioned, you may find it hard to get a doc to run these particular tests, thyroid problems are typically sloughed off as depression, hormones, or any other host of diagnoses and tend to be under diagnosed. You just have to continue to shop around until you find one that "gets it". There are several resources for finding a good thyroid doc on the net, so a Google search will help. They don't necessarily have to be an Endocrinologist either. Some PCMs, especially integrative medicine docs and osteopaths are willing to help.

I could tell I was gaining some but didn't step on the scale until yesterday and almost had a fit! I do think I'm dealing with some retention issues but even counting that it's a good bit of weight. I'm not constantly eating like I did when trying to quit with the patch I've never been a snacker but it's defiantly time for a diet. I feel like the goodyear blimp.

Food is starting to taste good again, isn't it?

What I found was portion control was key, because suddenly a couple months in I was cleaning up my plate. Not snacking! Just eating every crumb, because it was sooo good my tastebuds weren't listening to my stomach about not being hungry, until I was feeling full.

Try smaller portions, on a smaller plate if reducing the plate size makes a smaller portion feel more like a full meal did. Chew slowly, thoroughly, giving each bite a chance to make itself at home in your tummy...and savor the flavors! Check in on your hunger periodically as you eat; if you can stop eating when you are not hungry but still have room for more, do it!

Going through this process myself...it worked when I was a smoker and lost over 50lb. Now I've got 15 lb to peel off again from how delicious things are without smoking, but the strategy is sound, and at least I know it works. You are not the only one to have this happen!

I was a little overweight(25lbs)when I started vaping over 3 yrs ago. I gained 58lbs in the first 2 1/2 yrs of vaping. Last November I decided i needed to get it under control before it became a lost cause. From the middle of last November till now I've lost 51lbs of it. I must admit that I'm feeling much better. I've been kinda following the Carb Cycling plan. If I crave a particular item I get to have it on my cheat day. One of my biggest problems was that I was constantly stuffing something in my pie hole...lol. There is definitely something in cigarettes besides nicotine that curbs the appetite.
